BPPdankplayer21 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2004 If the cost of the camp is above 50 dollars I wouldn't go. Tell your friend to save his money and time.
biff44 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2004 Want a fairly cheap D1 camp for this month? Try this one, looks pretty impressive. It is a Northeast verwion of the Minnesota Model camp:http://www.uscha.net/Website says there are still a few spots.
Icedog03 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2004 One of the camps they are doing is in Laurel which isnt too far from me and last year it was at the rink I used to work at. My friend said it was a waste of time because and only like maybe 10 people or so out of maybe like 60-70 were invited to like junior c tryouts
kosydar 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 I got invited to go to this camp. Some of my buddies are going. I thought about going, but I figured it was probably just a fund raiser. Las Vegas Hockey Showcase
nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2004 My friend got this email from the guys running the camp. From what they are saying is that this new league is looking to fill up all the teams for next season. His mom sent in the $200 registration fee today so we'll see what happens I guess.good news and fair news--the weekend has been reschedule, to the third weekend in july--reason-- the june date was to close to the approval datejune 2 of the southeast jr hockey league at the usa meetingin colorado springs-- that is the fair news--the good news is that there will be over 100 roster spot the coaches are looking fori like those odds--this doesnt happen ever yr-- the usual is 8-10 spotsper team-- this really opens the doors--
morty 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2004 I don´t know if I got a letter for the same type of Jr. Scouting camps that you guys got, but mine was a two week camp in the summer out in British Columbia in Canada. In the letter (which was like 5 pages long, plus a pamphlet) it talked about having tons of Jr. A, WHL, and University coaches coming to look at all the players. They also had defense and forward specific camps for an extra week. I think it would be a good deal because you are on the ice I think about 4 or 5 hours a day, you train with weights, receive info on nutrition, learn about university programs and scholarships, and learn more about the mental aspects of the game. The downside to all this, is that the camp was about $900 dollars. Add in transportation and all that I´d be paying well over $1000, so I opted not to do that camp. Chadd 916 Report post Posted June 13, 2004 The website is updated and they seem to have openings. That would seem to indicate it isn't full anymore.
biff44 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2004 Supposedly, according to NCAA rules for such camps, the camp is open to any qualified player. It was not heavily advertised, but my kid just sent in a check with no invite. As of 6/10 there were 3 fwd, 9 Defense, and 2 goalie spots still open. I do not know how good it will be, but it sounds pretty impressive. See you there!

lubtrojans66 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 Yeah I've gone to that camp for the past two years. It's an ok camp but they don't do a lot that they advertise. They (atleast in the brochure they sent me this year) said that they would have Jr. A coaches run a few practices and then a power skating coach would be there-Zoran Benacawitz or something like that-we had a 30 minute skate around where we just did a few drills then got off the ice. Secondly they said each year that even if you didn't make a team they would send you a scouting report telling you what you needed to work on and such....didn't happen the past two years. Anyway I personally wouldn't really recommend that unless you live in a place that only has ice a few months a year (like me) and just wants a few extra games. But this is only my opinion and I didn't go to one up north. I went to the ones around Dallas both years.
