Chadd 916 Report post Posted September 1, 2006 Regarding the Conair crash, on last night's news they were saying that the pilot and the co-pilot first got on the wrong plane and it's someone working on the tarmak that told them they were on the wrong plane. They they board the right plane but take the wrong take off lane. They are supposedly experienced pilot / co-pilot too... The air traffic controller also turned his back right after advising them they were good for take off.. he could have noticed their fatal mistake if he would have kept a watch on the plane like he was supposed too. If there are multiple aircraft overnighting at an airport it's easy to get on the wrong one if you aren't paying attention. It's only listed on one line of the 5-10 page release form and most aircraft of a similar type for an airline have similar registration numbers. The flight crew had a short rest period, generally called a "stand-up" break. It's a pretty shitty way for an airline to temporarily get around FAA regulations regarding rest periods. Fortunately I don't have to do that but even working with the minimum FAA mandated rest can leave you pretty tired the next day. If you have 8 hours between work days and that includes driving to and from the hotel as well as eating and getting a shower, shave, etc.. it really doesn't leave much time for sleep. I would hope that this incident triggers some changes in rest requirements for flight crews and ATCs.

Oversold yet they only had 47 passengers on a 50 seat aircraft.

Yes they were on the right plane after they were told to change plane as they had board the wrong one in the first place. That's what was on the news over here anyway
