Heavy Pants Surgery

Recommended Posts

I have two pairs of pro pants - Tackla 9000 and Nike (not sure abot the model). Want to lighten them up as they are on the heavy side. Thinking of cutting to the padding and pull out/replace some. Has anyone done that? Any tips you'd like to share?

I would not recommend removing any padding and replacing it. The manufacturers have done a lot of research to make sure their hockey pants provide the adequate protection to reduce the chance of injury. If you mess with the padding you are compromising the ability of the pant to do its job. I would suggest you get yourself a lower end or middle of the line pair of pants which would probably be lighter and still provide adequate protection. There are a lot of good middle of the line pants on the market to choose from. Some examples would be the CCM 659, Easton Synergy 5's, Tackla 951's or the Bauer 4000 or 6000. This would probably be the better way to go.

Thank you.

My idea actually is to probably get the padding outa them and maybe buy lower end same brand pants on e-Bay for padding replacement. They are premium NHL pants. I really want to keep them and use them. I was curious if anybody has gone that route.

Did it! Quite lighter now and still quite protective NHL team pants. Used padding from other pants.

Do you have before and after pics to show what you removed?

Nothing really to look at. The kidney and tailbone protection is from Tackla 2500 pro now.
