LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Uh, whenever I try to open a new document with Word, nothing happens and there is text in the lower window that says "This modification is not allowed because the document is locked." Obviously, this is a problem. What do I have to do to unlock it? Anything can be done? Is this a virus?
toroytorero 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 don't think it's a virus. what kind of doc is it?
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 It comes-up as soon as I open Word. I can't type anything anywhere - not in a new document or any existing document that I open and attempt to revise.*Edit - Virus Scan is finding nothing...I don't know what to think*
kosydar 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 If you need to write something tonight and can't figure this out, download Open Office. My harddrive got erased and I lost Microsoft Word, so I just use Open Office now and it works fine.
J-Shera 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Im guessing its an issue with the amount of porn you have on your computer, you probably need more and then it should work fine.

LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Upon further review, my computer is making the claim that I am not currently hooked-up to the internet - call me crazy, but I would beg to differ.

LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Screw this - I'm going to bed. I'll try turning my computer off for the first time in about 5 weeks and see if it helps in the morning. Thanks, boys.

speedcraft 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 Word can do all kinds of whacky stuff if it’s “Normal†template gets jacked up. Fortunately, when Word starts, if it can’t find the “Normal†template, it will automatically create a new/good Normal template. So, give this a try:1) Shut down Word2) Rename Word’s “Normal.dot†template to something like “Normal.dot.old†This file is usually located in the templates folder… typically in the path below: C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Login Name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates If you can’t find it there, just do a search on your C: drive for “Normal.dot†3) Restart Word and try creating a new document. If it works, great…if not; no harm done.Good Luck.

This might be a problem... Not a solution to your WORD problem, but a problem... Computers need to be re-booted from time to time. You might consider upgrading to the new version of Word...? :P
LkptTiger 1 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Thanks for the advice, boys. I appreciate your help. I have downloaded Open Office for now, and it's working fine - it's just not what I am used to. I am going to stop by the IT store on campus at some point, as I am told that they sell Microsoft Office disks for a couple bucks (one per student, obviously).
