First Snow

Recommended Posts

Oh, this is sticking.  There's at least about 5 or 6 inches on the ground and people are running around the dorms throwing snowballs.

man you are soo lucky!

i havent had a snow day in 3 years!!!!

lol

our superintendent sucks and never cancells school for snow!!

but the worst thing is it could be 90 degrees and then the next day snow 3 feet. kentucky weather is so rediculous!

Its not a snowday if its at 8:45 at night.

i know, but if it snows all thorough the night it will probably be one, especially if its sticking!

ours is decided at 6 in the morning

dude we live in buffalo, there will be 2 ft of snow and people go busting down the thruway like nothing to get to work in the morning. I doubt this is going to close schools down.

I went to NC once and they got 2 inches of snow, people were acting like it was the end of the world, the whole town shut down it was super funny.

That's bizarre considering how close Buffalo is to Toronto and it is cold but no snow here. The lake really does make such a huge difference in our weather.

LOL when I lived in Vancouver, B.C. their idea of a sanding truck was 2 guys with shovels in the back of a pick up... I laughed so hard the first time I saw that. An inch of snow would just mess the entire city up.

woa man was I wrong. Just watching the news, buffalo is on shut down right now, and they closed all the buffalo public schools for tomorrow already.

I go to the University - I guarantee I'll have class; especially since I have a test and two papers due tomorrow.

Its in the mid 80s here and I'm just heading out to go golf.

You get to golf later in the year, but my buddies and I will be out playing pond hockey before you will, so...

Bastard, I can't say I've ever even played pond hockey before. Definitely something I've missed out on.

Yeah, D'Youville is a tiny-ass college in the city-area. I've got a few friends going there right now. Mostly "Education" majors from my understanding.

Hilbert is in the general vicinity - Hamburg is a little south of the city - your side of the 90.

OH. MY. GOD!

I seriously feel sorry for you. I tell you what - once we get some ice this way I'll fly you out here and you can play with my buddies and I.

I TRIED to play pond hockey once. unfortunately after the lake froze it snowed on top of it, and the snow froze, leaving a crunchy layer on top. skating was actually slower than walking. We wound up playing on sneakers instead. The sad part is, that was the first time I played ice hockey, after a long time playing roller. Didn't play any real ice until about 8 years after that, either.

I feel so sorry for you guys. Pond hockey really is something that every hockey player - no matter how old or good they are - should experience.

I did fall through the ice two years ago. Luckily, I was close enough to solid ice that I was able to latch-on and kinda wrestle my way back on-top. It is true, though - when you hit water that cold, it is VERY difficult to move.

Typical Michigan day here. Snowed pretty hard in the morning, but it was still to warm for it to stick, then it cleared up and melted. Then more snow again, then it cleared up. Then snowed again hard around lunch time. Then the clouds disappeared and the sun came out in the afternoon, then snowed pretty hard again around 7.

Apparently I was wrong...we don't have classes today (until 5 p.m., but that doesn't apply to me). I just went outside and it looks like a war-zone. This is pretty gnarly - even by WNY standards. Apparently there are a few towns in the surrounding area in a "State of Emergency."

...all this after I stay-up until 4 a.m. writing papers. God, higher education sucks. I'm going back to bed and not getting back up until about 9:30 tonight.

SNOW!!!!! It rained like a pony peeing on a flat rock here yesterday morning. We had about 8" of standing water in a spot on Main St from the storm drains being plugged, then it was in the low 60's all day.

I have a pond right down the street from where I live. Unfortunately, the weather up here has gotten pretty spotty during the winter and it would get nice and cold for one day (and it would snow, so no playing that day), then it would rain the next. I haven't been able to play pond hockey for the last couple of years.

It snowed when my dad was on the course on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to golfing on Monday now :)

We had about an inch of snow around September 10th, then it went back to being summer. Then it snowed all day on Monday, but it was such a drizzle it only accumulated half an inch through the day and one inch over night.

LOL when I lived in Vancouver, B.C. their idea of a sanding truck was 2 guys with shovels in the back of a pick up... I laughed so hard the first time I saw that.  An inch of snow would just mess the entire city up.

That reminds me of a story my older sister told us after she had returned from a college trip to Machu Pichu. As she took the bus up in the mountains, she found it very humerous to see the Peruvian Highway Construction Crew at work:

One guy was stirring the pot of tar, a second guy was ladling it onto the pothole, while a third guy was smacking it flat with the back of the shovel. :D
