SSGTBB,

You're already on the OMCHL.com website in the discussion forums so you've accessed the largest league in the town.

For ice there's 4 sheets that are normally available for play (www.omahaice.com) and there's 3 local hockey teams from NCAA to Jrs to AHL.

Good level of hockey, but strangely only one hockey shop.

There's a private rink here that has an Oly size rink and an NHL size rink. It's privately owned and opened year around. At that location is a small hockey shop. We have 2 city rinks. One is NHL size and is open year around and 1 is slightly smaller and opened 6 months out of the year. Council Bluffs has a rink that the Lancers play on (it's inside a smaller sized arena). You can rent the ice there but I've heard its expensive and is generally not for normal public use. There's a small town about 30-45 minutes away that has the best rink in Nebraska (IMO). It's an Oly size rink that was built a little over 2 years ago. Beautiful facility but few seem to want to drive that far.....

There's the MCHL (that Joel mentioned) that has 2 divisions, a novice (and it truly is a novice division) and the upper division. The BPHL is another league. The BPHL has a few former minor leaguers and a few former D1 players playing right along side novice level players. I'm not sure if there's still the MASHA league or not. MASHA played a no checking between the blue lines level of play and was/is a pretty physical league.

Other than the small shop at the privately owned rink there is another hockey shop in town. As have been mentioned, we have 3 levels of play here. The Lancers, USHL, the Knights, AHL and the Mavs, College D1.

Find a sports bar called Legends. There is guy named Nick that owns or manages it. He is a good player. He brings a team to our tourney every year, mostly ex-Lancers and UNO Mavericks. They have won it the last 2 years.
