came back from nassau colliseum.. man what an awful game. coulda sworn i heard more people rooting for buffalo..

i rarely go to hockey games and everytime i see them get whooped.

8600 is a pretty low number for an NHL game.

The sabres didn't play all that great of a game, they couldn't pass worth a damn tonight. I don't know about the islanders though, I only saw one guy who was actually trying out there for them, can't remember his name but you could tell he was pissed, just hitting everything he could. I don't know if the islanders are really that slow, or they just decided not to try tonight, but whatever it was its gotta change. Satan needs to go too, for the same reason no one in buffalo wanted him here, lazy bastard. Any one hear Rob Ray bashing him after the game?

the sabres werent playing terrific i'd say, especially not in the 3rd period. the islanders missed a million more passes towards the end and everyone just got sloppy.

I'm thinking its that some people feel there should be an asterisk (*) next to Buffalos record for most wins to start a season because they have won games via shootout, and the Leafs that have the record didn't have that advantage.

As for the game, I think the Islanders out played buffalo in the first period, just they lost because they take a lot of penalties (Kotalik on a 5-3? thats a goal 90% of the time) and they made it 2-0 because maxim is just damn quick (and witt is damn slow).

All the Toronto fans are sad because buffalo tied their record for most wins, so they make up silly excuses like the shootouts. Although the record is for wins, doesnt matter how u got them.

Well technically Buffalo would've been DQ'ed in their first game since they won it in a SO. They've won 3 games in the SO, and technically they haven't "won" those games under the same rules as the Leafs. They would've been ties. The Leafs (of '94) is also disputed because they won 1 game (game 7 or 8) in OT, and the old record of 8-0 was set without OT (by a Leaf team as well).

It's a good point in my eyes, I don't really care, it's a meaningless record, but I'm surprised it's not being given more attention. Today is today, but the game is different. The rules are different for the game, the outcomes are different. Just like the OTL column, that screws up the point totals in my mind, and I'd be hard pressed to believe that a "new" record which is based on SOL/OTL would be equivelant to the old record. If they counted SO goals as true goals, and someone broke the record with say 15 SO goals, would it be a legit record?

Or what if a regulation victory was worth three points and the record for most points in a season is inevitably broken? Obviously, this is a more extreme type of such situation that would certainly require a change in "era", but the point remains that Buffalo still has more ways of winning available to them - just like Toronto did when they set the record in the first place.

So lets say this season, without SOG counting the record is broken, then next season they count, and the record is again broken, but not be the "theoretical" total scored this season. Who should hold the record?

I vote for no one wastes any more time or thought on this. It's not a record that holds any weight and is nothing compared to the win record Detroit had, which is barely worth anything in itself. But, to quote Dennis Green, "if you wanna crown 'em, crown 'em!"
