Butt End

The rules for my league says that we need to have one in the end of our stick, but is there another reason you should have one which has to do with the design of the stick?

i think its so ur stick doesnt go through another persons cage. our old rec league used to require them.

that would be a knob to keep it out of another's facemask. a butt end is so ice and snow does not go into the shaft of your stick.

It's to prevent you from skating away with a chunk of someone in your shaft after you've [accidentally] impaled them

i have never heard of the butt end rule, it should be ok if you cover your shaft hole with tape and round it off.

Even tought hockey gloves are pretty big, i heard about a guy that stuck his finger in an opponent's stick and just broke it. Ouch.

I'd take "core samples" of anyone who stepped in front of my goalie for a screen if I could... damn the USAH rules!

Its definitely a rule, I've seen refs issue warnings on it but never call it. I always tape mine over.
