Shinpads?

Recommended Posts

After shattering the plastic cap on my old shinpads, and breaking my kneecap, i think its finally time to get ride of them. I really dont care how much they cost, because i dont want to be going through all this ever again. Obviously im going to the store to try them on. I've been looking at the Jofa 8060 and the 8090. How much of a difference is there between the two? I've searched an came up with nothing...

after i blew out my knee i got some 8090s. never had any problem with them. i don't notice them being bulky at all when i play. i've had some close calls where i almost killed one of my legs again and felt nothing when it happened. good stuff.

I have the 8090, cant feel a thing through them as far as shots and slashes go. But I do agree with Kosy on this, they do appear to be on the bulky side of things, after using them for a while they have gotten better, but I think that I will be looking for a slightly lighter more mobile shin. Possible Bauer 8000? Not sure as of yet though

I skated in 8060 for three years and switched out to 8090. The 8090 is much more pad. I had to alter them down by the ankle for them to work with my S500s. Once I did that I didn't have a problem. Basically - if you're a fwd and aren't blocking shots, the 8060 should be more than enough.

yeah, I play roller hockey defense and use 8060s, no bulk problems..no interference down near the ankle. had them 2 years and love them.

A couple of years ago I got frustrated because i would "bottom out" in my Bayer Supreme 5000 and swithced to to Jofa 6090, and I've never been happier. I just bought a buddy of mine a pair of the 8090 (as a wedding gift) and he loves them. Yeah they are a little more bulky and a little hotter than average but I fear no pucks/shots  below the knees!!!!

Get the Jofas. Even if you think they might be bulky or 4-5 0z. heavier, they are the way to go. Great protection, decent comfort and mobility - as some have said around the ankle or even the top of the knee. A bunch of the Leaf's used shins had the top flap cut off, fwiw.

I have s500's also. Was it more of your PP or did the pads just rub up on the skates? Im a forward, who doesnt block lots of shots so i think ill probably just get the 8060's. Sorry for all the questions, i just want to get pads that will actually protect my knee/shins.
