Obviously a "Made for TV" Event...right?

I've never understood Roulette...did he bet the exact landing Red 7....or just that it would be Red...I assume you can be very specific and the odds/pay out go up.

It is dumb but its proven that if you want the best chance of winning at a casino you would have to bet all of your money the first time and from there your chance of success are even lower. Note though your chances are never even 50%.

That depends on the game you're playing. Expert card-counters playing at favorable Blackjack tables (e.g. not too many decks, dealer plays through most of the cards, etc.) can consistently beat the odds.

Yes but usually they get caught and are asked/forced to leave.

Neat that he turned this into an ad for his new venture... the man also has smarts along with balls and the stupidity/audacity to put it all on the line.

if your chances were 50% the casino wouldnt make money.

This guy wasnt so dumb. A big company would have swooped in and cut a check or him if he had lost. This would be some great buzz for the company.

This was real.

It seemed to me we either saw a creative ad for the poker website, or an ad explaining how the founder of the poker website came up with his money.

I lean toward the former, since the only thing missing was "Reenactment" at the bottom.

I find this more interesting: Paperclip

Obviously not as ballsy as betting it all but its pretty amazing how it all turned out.

I love this story. There have been several other "paperclips" inspired by this. This guy would go to the top of my "must hire" list for his creativity and drive.

Card counting is not illegal, although the casinos can still kick you out for whatever reason they choose. The truth is if you're not very good at card-counting and make even a few mistakes, which is almost everyone who tries it, you're going to lose yourself money. Some people speculate that having successful card counters out there helps the casino's business in the long-run.

He just bet on RED, that is why it was a 2:1 pay out.

just ask the members of the old MIT blackjack team how illegal card counting is, seeing as how the original members are banned from most casinos.

That dosent make it illegal. Legal issues have to do with Law. The Casinos policy has nothing to do with legal matters.

I repeat, it is not illegal to count cards. The Nevada courts have ruled this, as well as the New Jersey gaming commission.

This does not mean a casino cannot bar you from playing there, which is a completely different thing.
