Quintin 16 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 Just to clear this up really quickly, I'm 5'11, 185lbs. Been playing for 4 years now and I guess I'm an alright player.Okay so here's what happened.I train with the University team here (Edinburgh Eagles) every Thursday night. They're level isn't really that high but some guys from minor leagues (SNL which is comparable with Jr A). During scrimmages, I'm usually one of the guys that would be rough and all that, y'know tie up players on the boards, look for big hits, all that kinda stuff. Tonight was different.During the scrimmages, I wasn't feeling it. Most of the time, I would be hustling my ass off so much but I just didn't move tonight. I tried giving big hits but every hit ended up being me on my ass. Just didn't feel like myself.Plus my shooting got better and that's not usual! I know about off nights and all that but this was my 1st week dedicating myself to in season training so pretty much all week I've been at the gym and all that jazz and just didn't start off too good. I'll keep sticking with it and get back to you. Might make myself a little blog here.Anything to help with this?
willy0314 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 You were prolly just more tired then normal. If you just bumped up your training, you might need more sleep then you were getting before. Plus more food in your system. If you get a little run down, you'll find your game just a little off, and sometimes thats all it takes.
jjtt99 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 You're trying to flatten your own team mates during practice? It's one thing to give them a little bump so they know it would have been there, but it sounds like you're head hunting. Yeah...you'd be a great guy to practice with. Well can't say I smoke them dead. Plus it's more like training on the side and their team cheers for big hits. There's this one guy who does actually smoke people HARD. I had him lined up and all that then WHAM! Hit me from one faceoff circle to another!
Viking#9 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2006 I wouldn't worry, Quintin, it's been a long first semester, I play for the Oxford Vikings BUIHA div 2 and we had a long game last night vs an RAF team. I'm exhausted today it's probably just b/c the end of the year, I would just keep skating and try to find your form again, it could be just an off week.Plus you have to get ready when you come to Oxford to play the Blues ;)

You guys must have much power as you do with brains! I went to watch the Eagles play the Blues when they came up here. You guys scored about 4/5 goals in the first period I think. Plus some of the Blues' guys were putting some big hits on our guys. We came back up to 5 goals until you lot scored 2 on us.I'm not quite eligible to play for the Eagles cos of the age barrier (still only 17) but come next year, I'll see if I play ya in the BUIHA div 1 team

sabre09923 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2006 Reasons why that might've happened:1) Maybe you've been working too hard at the gym. I just had 13 straight days of hockey, while I was loving it, I felt burned out for the last two practices and I'm skipping today so my body can get a chance to recuperate. I felt like I had no "jump" in my legs and I was trying so hard but not getting anywhere, much like you felt. 2) Also, make sure you also stay properly hydrated; I make sure to drink a bottle of water before a game/practice and a PowerAde or some OJ. If you don't, you could feel like you're lagging on the ice. It definetly is proven to get blood to your muscles, replace lost water, blah blah blah you know the rest.3) Or, just accept that you had a bad day and keep at it. You're human right? biff44 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2006 When you lift heavy weights, it makes microtears in your muscles that the body heals by building more muscle mass. But it takes time for the muscle you abused to heal, like 2 days if you are lifting heavy lower body stuff. If you try to skate hard without waiting 3 days, then you are in that repair/rebuild phase and the body is not fully ready to go. So the key is to calendar out your game days, and make sure there are enough days between any heavy lifiting and hard skating. Also, the obvious stuff like the second you put down the last weight for the day start downing some carb/protein mix, like lowfat choc. milk, etc. Take your vitamins and minerals too, to help the rebuild the muscles fastest.
