Selling Cars

Recommended Posts

Well my dad has a repair shop and sells cars frequently as a used car shop as well. Well tonight I talked him into looking into Ebay for selling his cars. He is basically computer illiterate but agreed to letting me control the ebay account. I already listed a few cars today but theres still about 20 to go. There is that $40 insertion fee to list the vehicle. For those who sell vehicles on ebay, would you reccomend using the flashy slide shows, display cases and so on? My dad said to keep the ebay fees as low as possible and we will only use about 3-4 pictures. Do you guys have any other tips for me to help get these cars out the door?

Thanks,

Matt

Make sure you note that additional photos and descriptions can be had by email

List everything fairly, be honest and don't use gimmicks- most people see through them and it makes you look shady

Include a short history of the major maintenance if possible

Include the VIN so the buyers can get CarFax reports or other background checks

If you're selling under blue book, say it

BE SURE EVERYTHING IS CORRECT in the listing, you don't want to get burned on it

be sure to tell him ebay takes a percentage of the winning bid and charges you for that.

you don't need all the flashy crap, but if i were to buy a car i would want a very accurate, and well worded description, and alot of pictures.

no "FOR SALE CHEVY CAMERO RUNS GOOD NEW TIERS"

try craigslist too, they're free. i've sold 2 cars on craigslist the day i listed them. ebay sucks.

Ok Thanks. We were honest and you have to enter the VIN. We did use blue book, entered the price that they suggested-just to show its worth some cash. I'll look into craiglist, thanks!

Wow that Craiglist site is very cool. Alot of amazing cars for cheap.

(Did you see that 'erotic' section under 'services'?? God I laughed so hard)Thanks for that

I think you have to go with lots of pictures for potential buyer.

If you look at the top car sellers on motors.ebay.com they all provide a lot of info and pictures for their potential buyers. Selling a car is a little different than selling a pair of skates. If somebody is buying a 10k+ item they will want to see a lot of different views/angles of the item they are purchasing and as well as a lot of information of the car. They can't see the item in person or actually touch the car so as many pictures as possible is only going to help the situation. (they could be 1000's of miles away)

You may want to look at linking to a 3rd party host for your pictures though. Many sellers seem to do this and eBay doesn't seem to really pick up on this. It shouldn't cost you as much as posting the extra pictures through eBay

Carfax is a definite, all the extra info you can provide the buyer is going to help you in the end.
