Ice Hockey Girdles

Recommended Posts

Im thinking about getting the synergy girdle, do you need to wear a shell? And what is an x-large in easton sizes compared to waist in inches?

Thanks in advance

I suppose you don't HAVE to wear a Shell, but I would recommend at least wearing Something over top of the girdle, i.e. Sweat pants, or Roller Hockey pants. I wear padded Stretchy Shorts, and roller hockey pants in my Rec leagues, cuz I can't find an XXL Girdle, and I hate wearing garters. But that's just me. Experiment.

No, the shell contains No padding, it's just that, a nylon Shell covering for the Girdle. The girdle has all the pads you need, and are a tighter fit so they stay on top of what you are trying to cover, instead of shifting around like regular pants would.

The Synergy is a nice girdle but I had issues with the stitching so I sent mine back. Everytime I'd pull them on a stitch would pop where I was holding them with my hand. They were very nice fitting, not too tight or loose, just not durable in the least. At that rate, they would've been worthless to me after about 1/2 season. I ended up going with some Easton pants from Jason at eastwesthockey.com and I love 'em.

i thought that it has some padding around the top to protect your kidney area, i could be wrong though

I use the Mission Helium girdle for beer league. ($40 at epuck) It's so light it feels like nothing. The pads are soft foam so you do feel it if you get hit with a slap shot but it's not bad enough to bruise. I'll sacrifice a little pain for the light weight & mobility. B)

For a shell I cut off a pair of black warm up pants. I have long legs and couldn't find a shell long enough, plus we're talking $5 pants vs $40 shell.
