High arch / low arch skates

Recommended Posts

I currently skate on Graf 705s which fit great. Recently I have been teaching my 4 year old son to skate. This involves a little more standing around (and patience) than skating, and I have noticed my arches are killing me. I never noticed this before after having these skates for two years. I have tried on all brands and I have noticed the CCM Vector 6 /RBK 5K to have a more comfortable arch than Bauer 5090 / 8090.

I have done a search on this topic but there seems to be conflicting opinions on what skates have a high or low arch. OTR and others have said Bauer has a low arch along with Easton. I talked to a LHS outside of Toronto and they said Bauer has a high arch, whereas CCM is more for flat feet. Who is right?

Its pretty simple if you turn the skate upside down you can see where the side of the skate goes up...if it doesnt in the arch area and there is nothing internal to make an arch there isnt one. I persnally agree with the above person Superfeet are the way to go with almost any skate.

I swear by Superfeet. I bought a pair of 8090's because they're a little bit roomier up front, but after wearing them for a couple of weeks, I discovered that I was experiencing some arch pain. Yet after ordering some grey Superfeet, my skates are incredibly comfortable. I no longer have that urge to get off the ice and rip them off my feet. If you can't find those, I've also heard good things about the ShockDoctor insoles.

CCM's are for wider, flatter feet, but aren't too big in the heel. I have with fallen arches/low arches (avg/normal forefoot, low and flat arch and normal heel) and I have to wear orthodics in my regular shoes. I've had a lot of problems with overpronation and stress on the arches/ankles so I was advised to go for CCM Vectors (6.0 to be exact, love 'em). I still have some pain while skating, but I threw in a pair of Superfeet Skate insoles and they've helped.

If you have a good health insurance plan or just have the dough, get custom orthodics.

fit and orthotics discussion here

and i know many people on here recommend superfeet insoles

Solemakes moldable insoles too that i have read good things about.

seems like these could be cheaper options.

unless this is an excuse to get some new skates. ;)

Thanks #21... very tempted by some of the new skates, but I still can't find a better fit than Grafs. I'm going to try the Superfeet insoles and see what happens. Thanks to all the other posters...

I just got 705's, put superfeet in them LOVE them!

Also for me the graf's offer a fit I just couldn't get with other skates. The vector's were close but a little too wide up front and definitely too narrow in the heel.

Anyways, get the superfeet and once they are broken in you will love them.
