Help with Skates

Recommended Posts

I am joing ice this coming October and I get the entire summer to look for a pair of skates. What I am playing in is a low commitment league so its basicly 22 games a season without practises. I need a pair of skates that will be cheap, affordable, will be good value and last long as for performance as long as it doenst slow me down I am fine.

So what pair of skates could you recommned me.

*I am completely new to skates and dont have a clue what I am looking for and everytime I go to my local mall where they sell skates they just try to get me into buying something expensive and they barley know anything.

First, try on a lot of different skates to see what fits you best. When you try on skates keep trying smaller sizes until they hurt, then go back up one size and see how they fit. Too many people try one or two pair of skates and find out they got the wrong size several months later.

Once you get a couple pair that feel decent and are in a price range you're willing to pay see what other people think of them. Use the other opinions as a guide but you are the only one who knows what feels best to you. Ultimately, you are the one who will be wearing them.

i have a pair of nike v12's and bauer 6000's new size 8ee and 7.5ee im selling. if your interested.

otherwise. check out the ccm skates, either the low end 652s or the low end vectors. great skates. esp if yoru a begginer, the ccm tacks are great.

and i made the mistake of getting skates way too big for me. not a pleasent experience.

Make sure you know how to size a skate, this season sportcheck sold me an old pair of 01 Ultra Lites for really cheap, but my foot hurt every game until i found out they were 2 sizes bigger than what i needed and bought some grafs.

Make sure that you take note of this. I was skating in Quests almost 2 sizes too big for my feet which consequently impared my skating and comfort. I am in XXs now sized 1.5 smaller and am skating with a lot more comfort and response

So true. Also, try on somewhat wider skates if it's squeezing instead of cramming your toes. Not necessarily EEs, but CCMs instead of bauers. When I bought my bauers, I tried to fit into size 7.5s and couldn't b/c they were too narrow, I thought they were just too small and got size 8s. Turns out that I can fit a size 7 or 6.5 D in bauer. Just be aware that there is a thing as too small. I just bought a pair of roller hockey skates that felt okish for the 5 minutes I had em on in the store. Took em home and put em on again for a few more minutes and had no idea how I fit into them. My toes were so squashed that I felt off balance.
