Long sticks/shafts?

Recommended Posts

My brother is 6'5" and wants to get back into hockey.

I'm trying to find him a stick setup. I got him a 60" stick and it's not long enough!

I figure the ccm 8.0 shaft and blade combo to be about 62".

Does anyone know if the 8.0 shaft will accept an endplug?

Does anyone know a stick or shaft/blade combo that would be longer than this?

You could always stick a long butt in the end. Or maybe you could find some pro stocks from tall guys. Combo? Idk. <_<

im 6'6" and when i use wood sticks, i found that the Easton Z-Carbon 110 flex were longer (for the curve i like: Yzerman). as the flex goes down, so does the size.. 100 flex is where i compromised since shooting with the 110 flex takes WAY more effort (for roller)... depends on your position. if hes rocking defense and wants a longer reach the 110 was a nice size to me. for playing forward and puckhandling i scored more than enough goals with the 100 flex and was ripping hard wristers. now i got the TPS redlite shaft for roller and made my own plug just tonight out of an old stick. its about an inch and a half below my chin now and it feels good (the stick is at

my stick is at about 66.5"). i didnt want to make the plug more than 4 inches out so the flex / leverage was too much (i got a more whippy shaft for roller since the puck is lighter).

the lie is also 6 for the Yzerman so you get a more upright feel and it helped me compared to an old sherwood Coffey i had that was SHORT and probably a 5 lie. use to love the curve as a kid but not anymore.

maybe him getting a stiffer shaft with a 6 lie blade... and then getting a 5/6" plug would help.

I think a long end plug is the answer. CCM (and Mission I believe)makes long shafts, while CCM, RBK, Montreal make long OPS. Pick one up and pop an 8" plug in the end.

I use shaft/blade combos with extensions. The market of wood sticks isn't very diverse when you're looking at the tall stuff. Any shaft and any blade will work together.

Buy a used shaft off here, and have him pick out a cheap wood blade and get it sized at a lhs

The RBK 7k is long enough for me with out any changes and I am 6'2" off my skates. The Synergy ST I just got also is good length for me.

Anway for 6'5" id say the RBK 7k would be a good to take a look at. Its pretty long.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I talked more with my bro about it and I think we're going to go with the Rbk 6k or 7k shaft and ccm 5.0 blade.

This setup clocks in at about 61.5"- 62". He thinks this will be enough.

Yeah, go with RBK/CCM - their shafts average about 4" longer than other shafts and that's without an end plug.

my brother has a CCM vector 6 shaft and it's 6" longer than my M-2 shaft.

i think more and more companies are adding length to their shafts rather than an end plug now.

I have seen a 12" plug available from Inlinewarehouse. I believe the legal limit is 63" from blade heel to end of butt. If you play around with different lies I cannot imagine you won't be able to find something that fits. If you cannot find a lie that fits, try black beauty. I know that not everyone has good feelings towards them, but they do have a grunch-load of blade lies.
