was this what you saw in Boston?

It's called the Rapid Shot trainer.... there are a couple of lhs in the Boston area that have one. You can buy $5 cards to use one, or sign up for memberships that run between $99 and $200. I think there's a list of Rapid Shot locations on the website.

Great training tool. When I lived in Ohio I was in there everyday. You'll see improvements quickly.

Anyone Have an idea of how much it costs to own one?

Yes. I've been looking heavily into getting one and setting up shop in a couple of locations.

To own one....

Purchase price is $37,000.

Monthly software operating cost is $250.00 per month. It needs this to operate the lane and to update the world ranking.

You also need a high speed internet connection to run the software.

Has anyone used this?

I have... the guy who runs one of the lhs that has one here in Mass let my brother and I take a few rounds. We set it at 3 (there are 8 passing speeds)... and the machine basically just fires you passes, and the idea is to 1) properly receive the pass, 2) get the shot off as quickly, and 3) as accurately as possible. It clocks the puck speed, reaction time, and shot accuracy. After 3 rounds, we were both sweating our a**es off. The first round, we really weren't taking it as seriously, and were just lobbing pucks- not using our legs or proper form... damn did we feel it afterward.... the 2nd and 3rd rounds we got the hang of it.

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to do these excersizes in skates instead of standing in a bating cage? Or can you wear skates?

It costs $37,000 to purchase, and you're worried about $250 per month?

The 37000 is the one time fee, 250 bucks a month is reacurring. At $5 dollars you would need 50 people a month to use this or 12.5 a week or almost 2 people a day just to cover the operating expenses.

Now say you do a 40000 loan, with 3k capital, at a rate of 6% at 7 years, the monthly payment would be 584.32. Lets just say 585. This is not a business loan, I am not sure of the interest rates or terms on those. I'd appriciate it if someone would fill me in though.

So the 585 @$5 breaks down to 117 people a month, approx 30 a week approx 5 a day. So we would need roughly 7 people a day to use it, just to cover all of the expenses. If the 250 a month wasn't there, then you could pay down the loan and be making more profit a lot faster.

I see this as a good opportunity for a high traffic area, but a small local rink or retail shop might not cut it. How long before the novelty wears off and people would rather go out and practice with a real goalie?

I asked the same question..... and the shop manager rambled "muscle memory this, muscle memory that" he must have said the words "muscle memory" about 2 dozen times.... I looked on the site... sure enough, the words "muscle memory" about 2 dozen times. I'm sure it would be more beneficial.... but it's still really neat to use. The organized computer tracking is pretty cool to track your progress, and 'push yourself'... I suppose.

I'm def. not here preaching the "marvels of Rapid Shot"... just saying I tried it

yes, the local shop charged a yearly membership fee for the Rapid Shot trainer.
