Samsung Blackjack

Recommended Posts

To make a long post short, my slvr got wet and I have to use a shitty gophone for a few weeks until my W2's come. I was thinking of going for a Samsung Blackjack (I would go with a trio, but I hate palm os and cingular doesn't offer the windows version).

Anybody have one? I would get a motorola q if they had it for cingular but this seems close enough. I have also looked at cingular's house brand pocket pc, but it felt really cheap to me.

And I dont want an iphone.

Hey my Dad has the Blackjack it is awesome i think it is worth the 220 but still the way it works is pretty awesome, but it takes awhile to get used to the keys.

Very nice phone...but i like the new Blackberry Pearl too.

I have the Blackberry Pearl... I love it, I got it when it first launched on TMobile. As much as I love my Pearl... I'm really eyeing the Blackberry 8800 which should be out soon....

and of course, the iPhone. I'm going to have to drop TMobile, and pick up Cingular.

i was about to get the blackjack, but got a treo 680 instead.

i liked the palm better due to touch screen, full size memory card and awsome camera.

i liked the looks of the blackjack, but the screen was small and i just decided against it.

the tre is AWSOME!!!

wait for the blackberry 8800 which comes out in FEB on cingular...just like the pearl but with a full keyboard....i'd stay away from anything windows mobile

I have had a few pocket pc's and I haven't had an issue with any of them. I would go with a blackberry, but I really dont like the interface (personal preference, not trying to draw flames). Windows mobile just works well with me and my computer.

I decided to go with the blackjack after all. The store I went to gave me a good deal, but didn't have any in stock. I am going back in a few days when their shipment comes in.

BK - I've demo'd about 6 pda/smartphones in the past 3-4 months and I really liked the Blackjack. The only issue is they have relatively short battery life - they even give you 2 batteries when you buy the thing so it's a known issue.

The way I use the devices, I prefer the Windows Mobile Smartphone edition over the full Windows Mobile phones with the touch-screen. The Smartphone uses menu's which I like. I use them to read e-mails, talk on the phone and answer e-mails in that order. Oh, having Windows Media Player is nice to play MP3's. The Blackjack compared to the Treo 650, 680, 700p, 700w and 750 is much thinner and can fit in a pocket no problem. I also demo'd an 8525 from Cingular with the slide screen and it was very large as well.

Compared to the Moto Q, the Blackjack is much better. The Q was the first of a kind in that form-factor but the Blackjack has a bunch of upgraded things on it hardware wise.

One thing that the Blackjack has over the Blackberry Pearl is that it has a QWERTY keyboard which is the reason I recently upgraded my phone. I am not good with the T9 text on the number-pad phones like the Pearl or T-mobile SDA.

I eventually went with the T-mobile Dash because I've been with them for years and have a family plan. It was between the Dash and the Blackjack. Both good phones in my opinion!

As far as Windows vs Palm etc, I am a Windows guy but it's almost a personal preference thing. I have people in my office who have learned to hate their Palm-based Treo's and were very happy with a Windows Mobile when they changed. Others will only use Palm. There are good reasons for both. There are of course people with anti-Microsoft biases who will pick anything other than Windows Mobile. I say get what fits for what you need it for.

Thanks :)

You were more helpful than the salesguy lol.

I totally agree with you. I really didn't like windows CE (it really didn't run well with my older phone's lack of memory etc). I got tired of hauling around a brick for a cellphone and got tired quickly of feeling like I was holding a paperback novel to my head when I talked on it. I thought all was lost until the Q came out, but I really didnt want to switch to Verizon for a phone. I looked at early motorolla mx's, but didn't like the small screen and I hated the 10 key for typing anything out. When I found out that the blackjack had a full qwerty keyboard, I was sold.

Well here's my week update.

So far, the glitz of having a blackberry has worn off. I am suprised at how much use I can get out of it (if I take the time and actually use it). The scheduler is almost idenitical to palm's, so it was easy to pick up and go. The biggest thing I like about it, is how much its like having a mini operating system in my phone. There are so many features and options that you can use that I couldn't imagine going back to a normal phone. I have it customized EXACTLY how I want it too. Everything about it is changeable even down to the fact that I have it auto turn off at 11pm and turn back on at 7am M-F just in time for my 7:10am alarm. Its the first phone that I have had that has a 1.3mp camera on it (my slvr had a vga camera :/ ) so that is nice too. After I got my email set up and went through the tutorial, I was set up and ready to go with pretty much everything the phone offers.

Only downside that I can think of is the keyboard. My fingers want to type in the old numeric way despite the new layout.
