Lacing top eyelit on XXX

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how may of you guys lace up to the top eyelit on your XXX? Also if you leave the top eyelit unlaced, do you wait until the skate is broken in some, or no matter what leave the top eyelit unlaced?

I've been leaving the top one undone on my Shifts for years now, Although it was hard to get used to at the start, It gives much better mobility and stride.

i go all the way up but on the fourth eyelit down i dont lace up, i get more ankle bend but the skate start to deterate in that area a little bit. Here are some pics of what happen to my skates and ive had them like this since september.

At first i laced the top one, then broke them in really good and didnt lace the top one. Now after two years of use, not lacing the top gives me too much ankle flex than i would like, so i lace the top one oce again. Its all a preference thing

when i changed to a XX to XXX i realized that my ankle couldn't flex so much that i want. So i leave the top eyelet free for having better mobility and stride when skating...

my english sucks but try to understand what i'm writing...

Well, last night tried skating without the top eyelit being laced! WOW....... I like it sooooo much better. With the skates laced all the way up and tight, I felt like I could not get all the forward flex I wanted. With the top eyelit undone, its great now.

Now my laces are too long 102". Those of you not lacing the top eyelit, are you using say 96" laces? I wear a size 7 if it matters. Thanks

I've seen pro players do this but have never tried it. Does it really ruin the boot or is it just normal wear and tear?

are there any disadvantages to not lacing the top eyelet?

You don't have as much lateral support with the top eyelet undone. If your ankles aren't quite as strong as they should be, this could cause issues with edge control.

undoing an eyelet really has nothing to do with your hands, but it could just be the comfort factor coming into play here. I find that if my skates don't feel just right, nothing else works either. this is probably the same thing you experienced, but the opposite- your skates are working better for you.
