Broken pro-stock Stealth near butt-end..

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was thinking of buying a game-used pro stock Stealth OPS, the only problem is that the shaft is broken basically up at the top right under where the tape job ends at (butt-end of the shaft) but the rest of the stick is perfect. If I cut the shaft right below where it is snapped and put in a wood butt-end the length will still be fine. I was just wondering if this will mess with the flex at all and/or the "feel" since the entire top hand would be holding it from the wood butt-end? I'm a shorter guy so I always cut sticks below the wood butt-end so I'm not used to holding one from the wood part.. thanks for any advice, if this doesn't sound like a good idea than I won't buy the used stick.

You could always try an Oggie grip if it's missing the correct length. I had a former Synergy one-piece blade combo with a long wood plug in it and it felt like the wood had a "dead" feel to it. When I switched to an Oggie classic it felt more lively, despite the additional weight. (those suckers weigh quite a bit)

i actually had the same problem with my synergy. I cut the top and put a longer butt end in it and i was good

If the price is right for the stick , you could have a SRS or Stick fix repair done for cheap and the stick would be as good/better than new. The local AHL team sells/raffles their broken sticks and many just get them repaired and walk away with a swet stick for nearly nothing..

I've always found the '05 stealth to have too light of a blade, and I know that putting a wood plug up top would make the blade seem even lighter. Feel/performance etc. shouldn't be hurt, but you could throw the balance off, which is imo one of the most important aspects of a stick or shaft combo.

I'm pretty sure that those carbon fiber plugs are really not carbon fiber. I scratched mine up to find that it is just an overlay of something to give it a "carbon fiber" look. They are pretty light though compared to an Oggie.

But I find that the slightly extra weight of the Oggie makes my stick "blade light" which gives me a better feel and more speed in my stick handling.

Just to add to the post, Easton's endplugs ARE real composite, but they are just a little too short for me.

I love the Easton ones, I have tons of them, and if the stick is the right length you can sometimes get lucky by just having it big enough to suffice, Although it would definatley nice if they offered them in larger sizes, maybe in 1 inch incriments, because I generally don't like cutting them just to have a composite plug with a big hole at the top just doesn't look as nice. I always cut the shaft (which I barely cut much off of at all) to acommodate the whole 3" plug.

By the way, I havent tried the TPS 8 inch-er, they're rather expensive for something I don't need in my opinion, but I have a couple Oggie ergos that I find quite heavy compared to even a wood plug, but they add great balancing. The added flex in nice too, if you don't mind the weight. I don't use it on my good sticks though... Just too heavy
