curving an OPS

Recommended Posts

so i have been given a warrior dolomite OPS that basically has a straight blade on it. What would the best way to curve the stick be? i realize that this will effect the strenght of the stick, but this is something i want to do for fun. Would a heat gun be enough or would i need a torch? any input would be appreciated

i have seen custom curve makers i beleive. they are metal contraptions that bend your blades how you want them.

i have tried this with a crappy blade and heatgun/ it didnt work too well btw.

Yes you can curve it, BUT, not by much. If you said the blade is pretty much straight, you may be able to give it a slight wedge or a little curve. In no way shape or form are you going to be able to make it into a sakic-ish curve without hurting the integrity of the blade or it completely breaking. Be careful of the amount of pressure being put on the blade when you are trying to curve it.

I had success curving a warrior dolomite pro stock. The key was not over heating and even distribution of heat with a heat gun. I didn't really like the curve and was able to flatten out the blade completely and then put on a curve I could use. Just be careful if you are going to attempt this, the only reason I did it was b/c I got the stick for 50 bucks and I knew if I broke the blade I could take it out and make it into a nice shaft.

im in the same boat as you.. i got the stick for free and if the blade breaks ill put in a dolomite 2 btw what tools did you use?

To get the blades out of dolomites, one just heated up and came out clean. Another one I heated up the blade and got most out, some remnants remained in the shaft though. I used a drill to kind of dremmel some of it out and after a while I could get a flathead screwdriver underneather some left over composites and basically pry them out.

I have done this before with a rbk stick. I didnt change the curve much but it did work.

the blade hasnt broken or shown any sign of weakness yet but ive only used it lightly in a few practices. Like the game said, the most important thing is not to heat too much and to heat evenly.

you can curve an ops if its a pro stock but if its just a regular store bought ops it wont work to well because theres foam in the blade... also if you use a hets gun dont get to close to the blade keep a good distance and just be patient with it.

is it possible.. you will not be able to curve it much though.

the theory behind is you need to "melt" but not break the epoxy bond.

you can break the epoxy bond 2 ways.. too much pressure, and too much heat.

keep both under control and theoretically it is possible.

get it warm.. and slowly and very gently bend it. you can not bend it too much or you will physicaly break the epoxy bond. Then you must with the shape intact.. run it under cold water to "set" the curve.

for those that use heat guns to pull blades out of 2 piece sticks...

you will notice the heated up area is "softer" when it is warm.

but after it cools, it is fine.

it's also the reason you should never flex a stick with a warm blade in it.

let it cool first.

i have never tried this.. all theory..

I tried it twice and it didn't work either times.

The first time, I applied too much pressure and the blade just cracked in half.. the second time this "bubble" formed and the blade was useless.

you can't spot heat.. you have to heat a much bigger section.. probably 75% of the blade

heat it as if you were pulling out a shaft.. but just a touch longer...

but this is something i want to do for fun.

Is it fun to destroy a sweet stick which is pretty pricey? No matter if you got it for free or whatever.

I would loooove to have a Dolomite and you just feel funny enough to ruin it.

well considering that i love the dolomite shaft (and correct me if i am wrong but a dolo is 2 piece fused together)and i dont like the curve on it, i figured that since i had no use for the blade i would try something different because in the end its just going to have a tapered blade put in it that i like...but if your opposed, i promise wont touch it :)
