If your talking about The Game by Ken Dryden, then yea I read it and it was really good. One of my favorites.

I haven't read it...but I've been told that it is the best book about hockey ever written. (not necessarily by Habs fans either)

the dryden book is, by far, the best book on hockey ever written. and ive read all that i can/could get my hands on. the only other one that is even close is 'open net' by george plimpton, but its a whole different angle.

What is the game about? I've heard he has a good book, but being a Leafs fan I just glanced over it. If you get the chance I was always fond of "so your son wants to play in the NHL". Puts a good perspective on how difficult life in the NHL can actually be and what it takes to get there. Follow Dan Bylsma from childhood through the NHL. Told by his father and by him.

I liked The Game but didn't think it was the best book ever written about hockey. Bylsma's book was really good. Both are up there though.

the basis for the game is pretty much a week in drydens last season. he goes through the normal stuff, games, practice, travel, etc.. its also got some pretty interesting questions posed by dryden. the role of violence, how the game had changed, etc.. its interesting to see that the things we talk about now, trapping, fighting, etc, are things that have been issues since the nhl started. if you have any interest in the history of the game, id read it.

The Game is the 2nd best hockey book I've read. IMO the best is Ice Time by Jay Atkinson.

i would say that about the other book he wrote, home game, more than the game.

the thing i like the most about the game is that it takes a more intellectual approach than any other hockey book ive read does. you see that with baseball or soccer, but never hockey.

Of course you're right - the timing on the book was off. But I swear that is why they brought out the 20th anniversary edition. I also really enjoyed Home Game - much different book.

On the topic of good hockey books, check out the Tropic of Hockey by Dave Bidini, definitely different from the books mentioned but it's an interesting read.

Funny this thread popped up, I was just looking for my copy of The Game this past weekend. Very good read. I give it a 4.....out of 5. (sorry a little X-Play humor)

Another fun book to read is Why Is the Stanley Cup in Mario Lemieux's Swimming Pool?: How Winners Celebrate With the World's Most Famous Cup by Kevin Allen.
