mack 44 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 I remember seeing it when it happened way back when and it was horrible to see, let alone read in detail. It was just a complete fluke on a play you see a dozen times each game.
PH_Hockey2 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2007 I saw the Sportscenter segment and it was sad on what happen to him. I've been meaning to pick up his book but havent have the time. It just makes you value being able to play hockey so much more.
drisco487 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 i definetly recommend this book, its great it seems like he just went into the boards when he hit someone and his spine i guess just gave out?
CHIEF22 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2007 He was chasing the puck into the corner, went to check the defender, tripped, missed the check and hit his head on the boards. You can tell imediately that damage was done. Too bad for a local boy done good. You are correct though, he is a very strong person mentally, he could have just given up but he didn't. They mentioned his name during the Bruins game the other nite while interviewing Parker inbetween periods, mentionig the line of Drury and Roy playing that nite - Travis was on the same line with Drury. Edge 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2007 I read it a couple years back and still own it. One of the few books I actually enjoyed reading. I also recall around the time when the Avs won the cup with Drury there being a couple segments on him and Roy. The video of it was pretty brutal to see just because you knew what the result of it was. He seems like a great guy though.
mac23 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2007 Last year Travis Roy talked to our whole high school hockey league. We had our annual sportsmanship meeting and then he came out. ESPN videotaped it and it's part of the SportsCenter segment. His speech gave me a new perspective on life. He autographed books for our team with his mouth. What a guy. I really admire him. Everyone should read this book.
