I've used the Skate Mate and its works well to extend time between sharpenings. Does not replace a good sharpening job, but helps in a pinch.

I have a Skate Mate and think it is a total POS. To each their own. If you want to extend sharpenings, maybe get a miracle stone.

personally I think it depends on the hollow you have. works ok for me, but a wider or narrow cut might not work well.

FWIW I also use a Arkansas whetstone on the sides to deburr any nicks.
