RBK 6K Pants

Recommended Posts

So I bought a pair of 6K pants today and now that I have them at home, I am wondering about the sizing....I am a 33 inch waist and 5'8 which is pretty much where the medium pant starts. the range on the pants say 33-36. My question is, should I go change them for the small for a better more natural looking fit? or stick with the medium?

Iam about your size 5'7 142 lbs. Assuming you are finished growing, i would defeantly exhange them for sm if you find it difficult to move in or phraps too loose.

sorry about spelling

I would get the small not only for the waste size, but because it will probably fit better all around. I had the same problem with my tackla's a while back. Recently I was looking for pants are tried on the rbk's they are really nice pants. Before I buy mine, I'm going to wait for the new vapor line to see how they fit.

how do they fit length wise? i would try it out with your gear on and see how it feels to move around. i'm around the same size and have some old pants that fit perfectly on the waist but are a little short.

Nazzy19- I think you should be ok with the mediums. I have the same measurements as you and am comfortable in a medium. Biggest thing will be how do they fit when both belts are done up. If they are slipping down you should go for the small.

I saw a pair of these for $70, which seemed pretty cheap. I know everyone is really high on the 8K, but what are these ones like?

If there's another thread on these, point me to it by all means, I just couldn't find one

he 6k's are not bad by any means, they are wonderful pant, you can adjust them almost as much as the 8k's and IMO the 6k's are a lil better because they seem to be less bulky...

I went with the 6k's cause I usually don't go top of the line with pants as opposed to mostly everything else. Couldn't be happier with them. Comfortable, light enough and the adjustable padding is great.

Its a terrible pant. I had them for maybe 5 months and it ripped all down the leg. Then in try-outs this year the top of the pant ripped right off. I would not rreccomend this pant.

I have a pair.

Positive

Since I'm pretty short (5'3"), I liked the height adjustment a lot. It's not too bulky either.

Negative

I had the same ripping problem - after about 1.5 seasons of beer league, they just started ripping down the leg, right next to the zipper. Also, the thigh pad wrap-around velcros could be a pain to get the leg through without opening them up each time.

I'm shopping for new pants right now.

Personally thats my favorite part. I've had regular pants my whole life. I love being able to have the padding at the side while i get my shins/socks and skates and everything how i like them. Guess its all PP but for me its great.

another opinion for you...

I have had mine for about 3 months, I skate about 3 times a week, relatively competitive adult league...

At first I did not like the pant. They are very different than a traditional pant. But, I have grown to like them. Best part is fit and weight. I am 5'7", 30" waist and wear a adult small. The fit is more snug than a traditional pant and they are quite light.

I still have longevity concerns based on the fact that you have velco/unvelcro the thighs to get them on or off. I have not ecperienced the ripping problem others have mentioned.

If you are in love with traditional pants you probably will not like these. If you are looking for a decent, trim fitting pant at a good deal, then 70$ for 6Ks may be your ticket

good to know guys, thanks so much for your input- as I was wondering as well.

I switched from some crappy Koho pants to a CCM girdle and a shell. I like the optional fit with the girdle, but the velcro is falling apart and comes open easily... so I was looking for something new to try out. I might just try to stitch up the velcro, and ride out my girdle for at least the rest of this season.

what do you mean you have to velcro and unvelcro the thighs to get them off?

do u mean to take off the pants? or to adjust them?

could you sew them on or somehow secure them better?

I have an 32 waist, and am about 5-10 or 5-11, I cant try them on b/c in Nashville we don't have a LHS. I was thinking a medium, any suggestions?

The thigh pads can be opened such that you can put the pant on more easily with your skates on. There is a strap of velco attached to the part of the pad that covers the back of the leg which then wraps around and attaches to the front of the thigh pad. Even without skates on I find I have to "open" this up to get the pants on and then re-attach once I have skates/socks/shin etc on. It actually makes it nice for securing your hockey socks to your garter/velcro tabs on your jock.

I am just concerned that this is an un-necassary weak point in the construction since pants usually last pretty long.

I suppose you could permanently secure the thigh pads in the "closed" position.

Sounds like you are tall and skinny? medium sounds right for the waist, I'd check the length, though.

good luck

I hope my description helps.....

I've had my 6K pants for six months, playing 1-2 times a week. The good points are that they fit me better than my other pair of pants (Mission M2) and they take up less space in my bag because the legs sort of fold into themselves. I liked the length adjustment for the thigh girdle, and I got used to the tight wrap around my legs which also helped with my socks (crappy velcro tabs on Shock Doctor shorts fold over and scrape my skin) and to undoing the velcro to get my legs out.

The bad points are that they are not too durable. I keep my equipment on a rack in a well ventilated and heated basement, so there are no environmental issues, and I play beer league and pick-up with friends, so there's no physical abuse. After three to four months, the mesh covering the thighpads right next to the velcro started to rip. Just last week, the inner belt became unstitched right at the buckle. Now I'm much more careful as to how I undo the velcro, and I'm just knotting my inner belt. Also, the snaps at the bottom of the leg zippers don't stay closed, so sometimes the zipper rides up a bit and I have a little sail thing going on.

I wonder if the ripping of the mesh next to the velcro on the leg wrap is a common thing on all girdles, not just RBK 6K pants?

I haven't had any such durability issues, and I treat my gear like crap. My 6K's still look brand new.

MEhockey thanks so much for your replies. It was really helpful, I think I'll order some tomorrow...

I have to admit I am sort of concerned about the zippers and their durability and coming undone... I can get a Bauer MPB8 girdle for only $70 as well.

I don't necessarily need a lot of padding, I play in a non-check adult league, and I'm pretty fast and play forward so I rarely come in to a lot of contact with anyone or block shots so I'd like something that is light and really mobile above all else... would the 5K be lighter? does it have less protection?

now I'm sort of torn between the XXX-lite and 6K.

I REALLY SUCKS not having a LHS where I can try this stuff on. If there's one near you don't take it for granted! I'd buy stuff and pay a bit extra from a LHS if only we had one...
