equipement lifespan

Recommended Posts

I think shoulder pads have the longest lifespan. Maybe Shinpads and Elbowpads as well. I personally replaced my Elbowpads some weeks ago cause they were way too old, bulky and were slippin around as hell.

I think that's a huge "depends" answer. If you take care of your equipment you'll get a lot more life out of it compared to those who abuse it.

Take care =

- Dry it after each use.

- Sew small rips and tears before they turn into large ones.

- Replace elastic straps when they get stretched out.

- Frequently inspect it to ensure the structural integrity remains intact.

- Did I mention dry it?

Ok, but taking all these things into consideration:even if it is cared for perfectly, should it be replaced after, say 2 years of heavy use (competitive play and almost year round use)? Helmets, I believe, even if you take good care of them should be replaced after about 3 years of heavy use (experts correct me if I am wrong). The padding must deteriorate over time?

Chelios is using shoulder pads from 1979. I wouldn't worry much about replacing your elbows, shins or shoulders until the straps wear out or they are no longer fit to wear because of the smell.

Actually, I've buzzed through shin guards in recent years. Cracked caps, cracked shin plates...

Obviously if it breaks you need to replace it, but the question was not about replacing broken gear.
