Lace lengths inquiry

Recommended Posts

I'm sick of having so much laces to knot up with my 108" laces on my size 10.5 CCM 652 skates. I found a good deal on eBay for 96" laces so I ordered, but then I took a quick peak at HockeyMonkey's lace chart and saw that 96" would work well on a junior sized boot.

I'm pretty sure 96" would work on my bootsize and alleviate having so much leftover lace after the intial tieup, but wondering if anyone has similiar experience with this size?

On a sidenote, wrapping laces around the ankle is a big no-no, correct? I read it does bad things to the tendon guard and boot shape...

I use 96" laces on my 7.5D Bauers and have enough extra to wrap aroung my boot (no I don't do that either). Laces are cheap to begin with so just try a set of 96" laces.

If you don't want to spend the $3.00 to try them, just cut your 108 to 96" and see if they will be long enough.

Depends on a number of things, like how far apart the eyelets are when you lace up your boot. That said I don't think they will work.

Here's a somewhat decent test, While not totally accurate it will give you an idea. Get out a tape measure and some string, Measure out 96 inches... Take the lace out of your skate and put the string threw and see where you wind up. That should give you somewhat of an idea if there is any possibility of 96" laces working.

Huh? I use 108' on my 7D Vapors without an issue.

And I use 84s on my 10EE S500s. Then again mine have a very narrow lacing width.

What's wrong with Warpping the laces? I have been doing this since I was 7 or 8.

It helps break down the ankles and can snap your tendon guard. It also makes you dependent on the laces for support.

96" laces will work if you've got 6" or more of extra lace up top on each side. (108-96 = 12" difference, divided by 2 sides = 6" per side.)
