Question about stick lie

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I've been using a PM9 (St-Louis) curve on my Bauer VIII stick and I noticed the tape at the heel of the blade is worn out.. up to the middle of the blade.

I've looked it up and it seems the PM9's lie is 5... so I don't think I can go any lower... is it just the way I use my stick during the game? When I stickhandle with the puck it's all fine and I don't lose control, could it be because when I don't have the puck, I tend to have the stick further away from my body and I let it rest on the heel?

if you handle the puck and shoot fine, i wouldnt worry about it. personally id rather have the tape wear be a bit more towards the heel. otherwise itd mean im catching too much toe on my shots, which is not good.

I think you are fine. If you had the wrong lie, stick handling would feel ackward.

It also kind of sounds like you are like me. When I don't have the puck I tend to have the stick further away from me and let the blade rest on its heel. I also don't skate with two hands on my stick very often (when I don't have possession of the puck).

sounds like you need a lower lie, or a slightly shorter stick.

some warriors claim to have a 4-4.5 lie, then theres leclair, or bourque if you can find one

the fedorov is listed as a 4 by warrior, and a 4.5 in the pattern db here, but it's a negligible difference between that and my rbk modano/ easton forsberg/ bauer PM9s.

I also tend to push the stick out in front of me when skating without the puck, causing more wear on the heel than anywhere else. as long as you're not missing passes or whiffing on shots, you should be fine.
