Major performance difference between RBK 5k and 9K?

Recommended Posts

Well I just bought my first pair of ice skates tonight. I was planning on converting them to roller but I don't know if they will hold up. Im also going to start playing in a ice league this summer so I may just hold onto the 5ks for that league.

The real question though, whats the difference between the outsole on the 7/9ks and the 5s? Is there any difference at all and if so would it be better getting the 9ks?

Do you think there will be more stress put onto the boot if I attach a roller chassis as opposed to the current blade holder? Or is it pretty equal and shouldn't matter much?

The 5s I have right now fit like a glove and werent too pricey. Should I save some cash and just pickup a second pair of 5ks?

Thanks

If you like the 5ks get another pair, there is a huge difference between the 5 and 9 though.

Stiffness was the biggest thing I noticed. I was very surprised as to how flexible the 5k boot was compared to the 9k specially at the price the 5k's are going for.

The boots should fit pretty much exactly the same right? I bought the 5ks at an LHS but it'll take them 2-3 weeks to get the 9s in my size. Id rather just get them online since roller season is starting soon and I need to get the converstion done soon.

Thanks

I've owned both, the 5K Pump, and the 9K Pump... and I'd have to agree with what someone else said, the biggest noticeable difference is obviously the stiffness. The 5K's fit me like a glove as well, but I'm a bigger guy, and a beginner no less... so the boot just felt like I needed more support. Again, that's primarily my personal preference and I don't hold it against the integrity of the 5K at all.

As far as the insole goes, I only know the 5K is plastic, where the 7K/9K is composite.. I'm completely ignorant to the whole "converting ice to roller" (as much as I would like to do this myself.... thinkin' about it someday), so I can't really tell you if it will compromise the strength/durability of the outsole at all.

In going from the 5K to 8K, to 9K, then to the 7K... I did notice that the higher end boots tend to feel a little more narrow. I'm assuming the stiffness plays a factor in that as well.

As I mentioned, I've gone through the gammit of RBK boots, and didn't really notice a significant difference in weight.
