John Madden's Skates

Recommended Posts

John Madden is on the Devils, not the Bruins.

It must be like the ankle guard, but for the top of the foot instead.

That's what is looks like (that's PJ Axelsson btw...) Tucker had them on Saturday and Steve Begin has been wearing them since his most recent foot injury. I think these tie into the skate a little more securely than what Pronger wears.

I read earlier this year that Doug Houda (B's defensive coach) was looking at several different foot protection devices due to Axellson's (Murray was one also) injury. I think it's a carbon fiber overlay that laces on top of the tongue of the skate.

i've seen something like these on some of the skates of the wilkes barre/scranton penguins of the ahl. it looked to me like the rebellion R logo is on them but i couldn't be sure.

Alot of players are using guards on their skates to keep pucks from hitting sensitive areas when they try and block shots.

There was an article in a recent issue of Sports Illustrated about it and how large some players shin guards are getting....

 Tuckers wasn't even close to that nice. His looks like he just taped a bunch of hunks of plastic to his skates.

I'm sure in some instances, a guy goes out and then decides he doesn't feel right, or wants more protection on an injured area...and the trainers MacGyver something together for him between the morning skate and the game. Then, get something "nicer" once they get a chance.

i've seen so many players use them.

its just extra protection to the injured area, like when Stevens got hit in the ear, and then wore the ear protector.

exactly.

I played with Claude Lapointe last year and he still had them on his skates!
