Mission Type M 2002 Model

Recommended Posts

So I was looking into buying some high end skates of previous years since they come cheap and I came across a Skate called Mission Type M or something. The seller sayys they were the top-of-the-line skate in 2002. Can anyone give me a confirmation or some info on these skates? They were supposely one of the best skates mission ever did he claimed. I found no info about them at all, though.

The Type M was the direct replacement for the Wicked Lights when the originals were discontinued. They were indeed top of the line, but have the Vibe chassis (I believe they were the last to have that chassis), which is one of those things that you either love or you hate.

As others have said great boot lousy chassis. I don't think it was Mission's last great boot. The pair of 10000 I had were great IMHO

Agreed.. I tried the wicked one and looking back at it probably did not give it enough time. Maybe the wicked 3 or 5 would have been a better choice. I currently have the helium 9500's and I am in the process of replacing it with a hummer chassis. Good boot-pretty stiff, pretty light, quality boot. Mission is a solid company. IMO.

When i cant even get 6-8 games out of a brand new set of skates, i cant consider any of the new(er) boots "good". I think thats pathetic, actually. And this hasn't been 1 or 2 skates. Its been every year since the D1/D2 line.

All the lines with DNA lacing, D1 03'/D1c 04'/He950 05' (more?) I could imagine you might break them after 6-8 games, but there is no way you could breakdown the 06' and 07' models in that timespan, unless they were defect from the get-go.

I have and currently use the Type M of 2002. I love the boot, it has outlasted 4 pairs of current models. I have gone through 2 pairs of D-Limiteds, and 2 pairs of the D1 and HE series skates and they are all dead and gone but my Type M's are still going strong, no break down. I do rotate skates through the week as I skate 4 times weekly, roatating prolongs life, but as I said while rotating all these other boots have come and gone while the type M's are now sharing duty with 10000's, and are better.

That all being said, I took the vibe chassis off immediatly in 2002, and replaced it w/ the Mission Generator. So I will recommend getting ahold of some kind of high end Mission chassis to do the same, but the boot will be the best!!!

The Helium line (950) and the DNA Advanced (D1c) lines were by far the weakest lines. I went through a pair of 950s in 7 months, and a pair of D1c's in 5 months.

The other ones were pretty decent. The D-Limited skates lasted my friend 3 or 4 years, and they still are in good shape; he only got new skates because he wanted a change. The first DNA line was pretty good, and the Quattro (10000) and the Wicked seem to be great skates.

Mission had a little bumpy period, but I think they will be fine.

I use to own a pair of Type M's. Great looking skate, with a pretty decent wheel and bearing setup. I remember these skates use to cost a fortune because it was one of the first skates to have mini-bearings. The boot was awesome, very, very durable. I didn't mind the chassis that much, but the Vibe "springs" would cause me to lose my footing when I did a really sharp turn. The skate was really heavy, despite having mini-bearings. Overall it's a solid skate; however, I would prefer owning a pair of HE10000 than Type M's.

IMO the boot on my Wicked 7's is amazing. the chasis could be a little lighter, but they work fine. Over all, i love them.

Hm... aren't we talking about the Mission Type M? If you're suggesting a skate, saying so might be a good idea. But back onto the Type M; they are a solid skate, but if you are talking about the $200 + $45 shipping pair on eBay, don't pay that much for them. They are used, and you can definitely find something better for that price. If the chassis weren't so lousy and the skates were new, it would be a great deal.

Am i the only one who paid $549 for them?

Could be.

I paid $149.00, free shipping, and they were NEW. Hockey Giant has some good clearance sales. like the S500 for $125.00, and the S400 for $95.00.(Sorry I drifted off on a tangent.

I would not get any skate used on E-Bay. Not that there are not some good deals, just that as previoulsy stated you can find much better deals for new if you are patient and willing to search, with less risk.

Exactly, the HE 10000 are on clearance at Hockeygiant for 199.00. Not to encourage reselling but you can literally buy the skate and part it out and make a profit. The wheels alone are 200.00 new. I bought a pair and they are the first skate I skated on for 2 hours straight the first use and no blisters.

I'm planning on buying the Wicked 1 on clearance the same way, a year from now... just for the chassis and the wheels.

Boot I'll resell to a teammate or something.
