blade question. or maybe technique question

Recommended Posts

ok, heres my problem.

when i take a slapshot, its going really hard, but only coming about 2 feet off the ground. should i try a new blade? or is there any tips anyone has?

im using a thornton CCM vector v120 right now.

if you play defense thats exactly what you want.

otherwise i'd check your follow through. you should be pointing to exactly where you want the puck to go at the end of your follow through (with the blade) and try to turn your wrists. another obvious seeming word of advice, really look at what youre trying to hit and visualize it, it helps.

if none of that works opt for a curve with a nasty heel curve, that'll do the trick. go for Gaborik (Easton) or p106 (NikeBauer).

only 2 feet? 6-12" is optimal for rebounds. If your looking to shelf it, stick to a snapper/wrister.

I wish my slappers from the point went two feet high.

I actually like my slappers low to the ice. Less chance of hitting shinguards and more likely to hit blades and into the goal!

i can get slapshots up high with a forsberg curve. if the puck is further in front of you the higher it will go. if you hit it more towards your back skate then it stays lower.

i do play defense. its not so much that i have a problem with it being 2 feet off the ground, but even when i want it higher.. i cant do it.

My stick is really long, so i might try a slightly shorter one in some drop in, see how it goes.

as a forward who loves to play in the crease I hate slap shots any higher than that 6-12" is great for deflections. Anything up around the top of the net gets kinda scary

I play D, and I certainly don't have a great slapshot, very inconsistent at best. But during my last game I fired one that surprised even me.

I swear I've never been on the ice for a harder shot! I guess I just got a hold of it!

Of course it was head high and rising and went over the net..lol. And I thought it broke the glass...

After the game I was talking to a D-man from the other team and he said the goalie was like "what just happened".

I was using a woodie for the time all year too, btw.
