Doctor Hook 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 I'd also add, watch for the guys with red helmets! It's like a club...ringers wear red helmets it seems. In my beer league, it's guys without facial protection or just a visor.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 I tend not to look for the most part. If someone is having problems, I will offer some suggestions or add some info.I get a lot of looks and have to do a lot of explaining when I play. What does that have to do with the gear you use? KBO25 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2007 I can't believe I'm the only guy on my team that reads this site!?!My teammates give me crap becuase I go through a lot of different sticks. But, they don't seem to complain when I sell them stuff for real cheap, or even give stuff away. This is a typical exchange before a game:Teammate, "Another new stick huh?"Me, "Yeah, I didn't like the feel on stick-x," or "The lie on blade-Y was too high" or "I wanted to give a heel-wedge a try".Teammate, "Uh-yeah, so do you wanna sell stick-x?"But to answer the question, I look at other players gear when I am on the bech occasionally. But, for the most part, the league I play in, it's rare for people to change their equipment, even sticks. Most guys will use the same stick until it breaks.I play with a guy who used the same 5030 Coffey for like 2 years. I asked him if he noticed it getting soft and he looked at me like I had 2 heads.Another guy I've been playing againt has had the same pro-stock vector for a few years and he has the hardest shot in the league. I took one of the shin the other night, shin pad or not, that sucker hurt. I didn't bother asking him if he noticed his stick going soft at all....

sn1per 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2007 I definitely do notice almost every piece of gear everyone is wearing while skating during warm-ups or on the bench. This happens a bit while during gameplay, but I think with me, it's a combination of gear, body build and the way people move. For example, you can definitely tell the difference between skaters and their style of skating whether it's choppy or smooth and so on. The taller guys obviously stand out. But yes, if the gear is really flashy like a tinted visor or bright orange custom MIA gloves (I've seen this and the guy was brutal...I apologize if you're on this forum, but getting those coloured gloves and having no game to back them up is just asking to get chirped), then I'll notice it when playing.
