University Hockey Cup, Moncton 2007

Recommended Posts

So yesterday I was attending the game (media for the U de M) where the Varsity Reds from the University of New Brunswick defeated the Aigles Bleus from the Université the Moncton in overtime 3-2. The whole talk today at the university was the Busque incident where he was thrown out of the game at the end of the first period after a guy from UNB literaly attacked him on the bench (from the replay of the game). On the play the player of UNB got a 2 mins for roughing and Busque got a 2 minutes for interference and a game misconduct. Busque was Moncton's best player of the tournament having scored 5 goals and getting once assist in 2 games. He was nammed, after the game, the tournament MVP even if Moncton lost the final.

I was wondering if anyone watched the game on TSN or on RDS and if they have any thoughts on the incident or on the game itself.

I watched it on TSN, and it was another good game.

I was suprised that Busque got thrown out of the game for getting jumped while he was ON THE BENCH. Terrible call from what I saw, but maybe something else happened that I couldn't see on TV.

The second goal that Ouzas let in was just terrible. I didn't think UNB could rebound from that kind of a goal, but they did.

UNB had a glorius chance to score the winner just seconds before they actually did.

Again, it was a great game to watch.

Yeah Ouzas had an outstanding tournament and that was the only soft goal (2nd one against Moncton) he did let in during the tournament. Moncton was really banged up and alot of players were injured, their top scorer during the regular season, Strozynski did not play the last game and he only played a period against Laurier. Mandeville who was selected on the All Star team during the season was also hurt and only played during the important times.

During the 3rd period the Moncton defense started pinching and gave alot of 2 on 1's or 3 on 2's. To be honnest during the whole tournament, the ref's were bad and not just the final. The Reds played a better game no doubt but I still think Moncton has the best team in Canada, if they are all healthy and not suspended. I also can't believe that Moncton did not get the better schedule and get a day off, they had to play 3 games in 3 nights. Most of the time the organizing comitee give the local team a chance to have a break and not play more than 2 days in a row. But the whole weekend was an amazing experience for me, beeing able to hang out with the media, getting the royal treatment, best seats in the house, going to all the games for free and seeing amazing hockey performances. I'm 23 years old and this weekend was def. the best experience I've ever had, only thing is that my team did not win, but never know next year, they are again hosting the tournament.

Everyone keeps talking about the comparison to the Wildcats last year. They were the best team in Canada, they won against the Remparts in the Q final, they also hosted the main tournament (Memorial Cup) and the finalists came back to win in the big tournament. Moncton (Aigles Bleus) had won a 2 out of 3 game final against the V-Reds for the Atlantic Division, 2 games to none. They had also lost only one game during the regular season to the V-Reds, but the Reds won the most important one. Oh and BTW, the referee for the final was from St-John NB and St John has a campus of the University Of New Brunswick.

He also studied at McGill, I don't remember what year but he left the Canadiens because of contract discutions. He was not happy with what the Habs were giving him and he went back to college but this time for McGill.
