Visors that aren't CSA approved

Recommended Posts

So i had to remove my visor in a mens league game because my visor was not CSA approved. Its the Oakley Pro Aviator without vents or anything. My question is, what makes these visors not CSA approved? Have they not been tested yet? Will they eventually be approved?

I ask this because i really hate the look of the vents on the top portion of visors, which seem to be the only ones that are CSA approved. Almost every visor that is worn in the NHL is not CSA approved which sucks because they are the best looking.

No, they are not certified, because they can move up and down. The vents lock it to the helmet.

I can't believe a men’s league is that strict. So going without a shield is safer than a non-certified shield? It is obviously a reputable manufacturer; I think a warning would have sufficed.

Ohh that makes sense, i always thought because theyre scared it might shatter on impact. Well crap, i feel funny without a visor so i guess ill have to get one of those vented visors.

Having a visor shatter in your face really isn't a cool thing. I had it down to me. I was going to the net hard and got cross-checked in my Pro-wave and it cracked in multiple pieces, cut my nose, cheek and sliced my lip up pretty bad. Needless to say I switched back to a full cage for a while and now I'm back to using a 1/2 shield again but this time I went with one that is attached all the way around.

Itech RBE V is CSA certified and it does not have a connection point at the top of the visor. Most of the "cool" visors do not cover enough of the face to be certified.

yeah i was just going to say that i use the rbe V as well

i think it's more about the material the visor is mad of with respect to shattering

the material that allows better optical performance prob is more prone to shattering and plus it looks better
