D compared to EE

Recommended Posts

How much of a difference is there in width between the two? Is it a considerable amount? I'm asking because I tried on a pair of one90's at my LHS but they only had a D width. They felt ok, a little stiff, and a little pressure on the inside upper part of my arch and it felt like the ankle padding was pushing my foot forward. Does that mean their too small a width and I need a EE or do they just need a little baking and breaking in? The guys(kids) at my LHS really have no clue what their doing so I just want a little input on this. Thanks

I would say that D is too narrow and you should go to EE, but it's still hard to tell. What type/size skate do you wear right now?

After trying them on I almost went with a 7d, but I got great advice on here and I went from a 61/2d Nike FL12 (Nike got way toooo big in the ankle/heel area) to a 61/2d One90. At first I thought the One90 was too tight but it loosened up quicker than I tought more in length than width. Reading other post most stated that it's a slow break-in, but for me it was a bake and a couple skates. I don't use the top eyelet though.

If the skate fits..... my advice with the One90 is go snug, very snug, almost tight. you can always have small hot spots punched.

Right now I have Graf 705's. I tried them on with a very thin dress sock to get a better feel of the boot on my foot and it worked out well. I could feel alot of things I couldnt feel with a normal sock on. I suggest anyone that wants to buy a pair of skates either use a dress sock or one of those thin socks made for hockey. I'll be getting a few pairs of the thin hockey socks now. I also took my 705's in and put one on one foot and the other had the one90. The only difference I felt was just a little tighter around the ankle and the arch but I think after a little baking I should be good to go.

Stretching a skate from D to EE would be no big deal right?

I got some cheap used Vector 6 (05 version) but they are D and are killing my feet.

How much should stretching a pair of boots run?

really?

not that simple? i should have guessed.

If it was that easy, why would they bother making EE skates? You would just stretch one width to any size that you need and that would save a lot of money for the manufacturers.

Last time I bought a pair of skates using the skilled personel at my LHS they sold me a pair of Tacks in a D width. Assuring me that once I broke them in they would fit great without a problem. Having circus feet I was skeptical but this was a well respected LHS in southern Ontario. Several months later with excruciating pain every time I skated I went back to tell them they were f'ed. They told me I just hadn't broken them in yet. A few months later I had cut the non-memory foam from the lateral portion of the skates out with a drywall knife still f'ed my feet up every game. Now finally like 8+ years later they stopped hurting, of course they are also breaking down and coming apart but for the first time in ten years my skates don't hurt.

Make sure you find a pair of skates that fit not taht may some day come around to fitting your feet.

This time I'm going custom.
