Car painting

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how much you guys would think it would cost to paint my car. I've heard at least $1,000 for a normal color, but iam thinking cherry black. Anyone have any ideas how much something like that would cost? (CAD)

All depends on the prep work that will be needed, dents, dings, etc. that have to be pulled and smoothed. Cherry black if I'm not mistaken would be a tricky color to spray so that will increase the price as well. What kind of car is it?

If you want it to last, budget $8,000-$10,000 for a decent multi-step finish. Currently have a restored BMW 2002tii sitting unpainted until I can pony up the cash for a better than factory paint job.

8K is a little much, you should be able to have it done for under 5K unless your wanting flames or something else incorporated in it.

For a show quality finish, start at $10K and go up quickly. For a factory quality finish, $5-$6K if you redo all the door jambs, under the hood and trunk. For a quicky spray at Maaco, $1-$2K.

Don't laugh, if you are willing to put in some work Maaco or Earl Scheib's is an option. IF you strip the car down to just paint, i.e. no glass, no rubber, no emblems, no trim, fix any small dents/chips yourself and then pay for an extra couple coats of clear, you can color sand and buff the paint and end up with a nice paint job. Don't underestimate the effort of color sanding and buffing. It will take you 20-40 hours depending on your level of anal retentiveness.
