Want to move to Canada...

Recommended Posts

One of the pros i noticed about beeing a Canadian citizen is when you travel. Americans can often be "hated" or seen as the "bad guys" in very poor countries or musulman countries. Canadians are pretty appreciated all-around the globe. Don't get me wrong, i'm not criticizing Americans here. My comment is based on 2 good friends' travelling experiences.

And you are welcome in Cuba, a country that i love to spend a week at!

You can still go to Cuba if you are an US citizen. You just can't do it directly.

Actually, you can't. Earlier this year, two Detroit area people were arrested for traveling to Cuba via Canada.

The law states that it is not illegal to go to Cuba - it is about spending money there.

Going through Mexico is easier - they'll look the other way.

I know a guy who was looking to move to Canada to live with his girlfriend/wife. He went through months of paperwork until at some point they essentially told him no. She ended up moving home for a while, got new paperwork and now they live here.

My girlfriend and I are trying to get her Canadian citizenship/permanent residence right now - everyone needs to say things that aren't scary and discouraging... The 'get married' card is in the back pocket waiting to be pulled if there's trouble, though.

I don't see too many people on here going on a trip to Cuba and not spend a dime.

I hear ya. I almost went back in 2000 when I was living in Miami.

I heard it's a beautiful country.

Yeah - the description that I hear from people is it's the land that time forgot.

I'm going through the same thing in the US. Even better than getting married is having a kid together. We brought our kid in for my Immigration interview and it was rubber stamp time after that. Nothing says commitment like shackling yourselves together with a kid!

on the topic of going to Cuba, JR is right as it is not too difficult to do it through Mexico. My cousins went back a few years ago, and it went off without a hitch. Just gotta be smart about it. Don't get your passport stamped, etc.
