Skating barefoot

Recommended Posts

I skate barefoot and have for the last 8-10 years. I recently moved and am playing at a different rink. Everyone on my team looks at me like I am some sort of circus freak for skating w/o socks. At my the last rink I played at, 80-90% of people skated barefoot. I know it is personal preference, but who else skates barefoot?

I did but stopped after figuring out that putting wet, cold skates on isn't that enjoyable. It was nice when they were dry.

Maybe the people you play with now are newer to the sport and don't understand skating without socks

i personally dont skate barefoot, im thinkin that it would take like a layer of skin off, but some people do and if it feels fine then go ahead and do it

I used to for pretty much most of my career and my skates smelled terrible and broke down quickly. When I got knew skates I tried wearing socks and really had no transition problems.

I would think it's really hard to go barefoot in new skates because they're so stiff. Do you bake your skates usually?

I have done both. I have no preference. For sanitary purposes, I like thin socks like puckskin.

I skate barefoot... have been for well over a year. I've done it with brand new skates, baked, and not yet baked. I've never gotten a blister, or lost any skin... I think it feels a lot better. I tried socks, but even when I wear a thin stocking-style sock, it bugs my feet (I have extremely sensitive feet). I've wanted to check out a pair of Oxysocks, I'm just afraid it will be a waste of money, and they'll just sit in my bag.

I do know though, that with skating barefoot it tends to be more demanding on your skates, so I make it a point to pull my insoles out, and hang my skates up after every skate.

I'm the same way, always barefoot. My skates stink like ass but its so much more comfortable.

well, as you would know... I'm a little obsessive compulsive about taking care of my skates! I'm pretty strict about drying them out, and such.
