laptop graphic cards

Recommended Posts

i need a new laptop before i go back to school, and was wondering if anyone computer-literate knew if any new laptops were coming out with the new nvidia geforce 8m series graphic cards. i dont need the laptop till september, when school starts back up, so i can wait if they're scheduled to come out this summer sometime. any help, or any websites with info would be great!

this is on the where to buy section of the nvidia website http://www.nvidia.com/object/wtb_notebooks.html#eightSeries it doesn't list the Toshiba's yet though.

i checked the asus website, but there were links on purchasing the laptops, or a price...and the futjitsu is european, which would cost me a fortune.

i know this might be pricy, but if i bought a dell inspiron laptop with a geforce 7900 graphics card, would i be able to swap later on down the road to one of the 8000's? i know it'd probably be much more expsensive than buying one with it, but i don't need the card as much as i do the laptop right now.

I would expect to see the geforce 8 in a lot more computers in the next couple months. You might even be able to have dell (or whichever brand you get) upgrade it for you.

The problem is that they haven't been available very long, so they're going to be tough to find. If you don't need it right away, hold off for a month or two, then look at your options a little more.

*sidenote* Acer laptops have actually been getting pretty good reviews lately, I wouldn't count them out yet.

i've mainly been looking at the dells now because you can customize them, and it's affordable, especially when they have the free 1 GB of ram offer going.

They're pricy, but check out Alienware and its gaming laptops. Some of them even come in a dual graphics card configuration, though as far as I know that setup is not yet compatible with Windows Vista.

You can't upgrade the graphics card in a laptop once you get it. Its a tough call, because some laptops with 8 series cards are costing substantially more than laptops with 7 series cards.. you would be better off pocketing the $$, and flipping your laptop in a year and a half to get a new one.

It works, trust me =)

are you sure? i thought you could change graphics cards in laptops just as long as the graphics weren't in the motherboard. anyways, i've set my mind on an inspiron 9400 with a nvidia geforce 7900gs graphics card, and thats gonna have to do, as i dont wanna blow any more than $2000 on a laptop
