Easton Tib Flex?

Recommended Posts

Was curious why Easton does not apply the TibFlex technology on their Stealth shinguard line but do in the Synergy 800 Shin Guards? Also; has anyone used the 800 shinguard with the TibFlex feature and how well does it work?

The Stealth models seem to be the same ones as last year, so I'm guessing they are just using the old design again and offering the new technology of Tib-Flex to the new model shin pads so people have the choice. As for the performance I am interested as well, I need new shins and these looked interesting.

This is what makes me think that the TIBFLEX is more of a gimmick than something that actually works well. Otherwise Easton would have put it on the S9 and sold it as an added feature/benefit. I havent seen this in person yet so I cant say that I know for a fact that it is a gimmick. I figured someone here would know FOR SURE.

That's a great idea as I should use 15" shins but they affect my skating so I sometimes use 14" and get burned. Ouch...so back to the 15's I go.

i need new shin pads and was considering those too... another interesting feature i never noticed is the "tapeline" indent in the shin pad right below the knee to help maximize the effect of using tape. 800s seem prety nice

I got a pair of syn400s that have the tibflex on them. the motion is definitely improved, and it does over a level of defense that would help if you took a nasty puck or slash.

I am also interested in the 800's. My question though is, a 15" shin still 15" plus the length of the tib-flex or is the plastic part of the shin a little shorter and the complete length made up by the extra pad. I currently use the Jofa 8060 so i guess my question is will the easton be 15" plus?

I compared my 15" syn 400s to my 10 year old winwells (they rocked) and they were the same as far as the plastic goes, but the tib hung down a bit lower

I consider myself as a person who is fond of easton gear in general and I still feel that is a stupid feature. if you wear your sg properly sized to fit under the tongue, you won't need that to make up slack and if you wear over the tongue, you wouldn't need that either. Besides, this is one piece of gear that should be as rigid and strong as possible across the bone. I don't get the advantage here.

Good point Keith. I wouldnt see a need for these either if I wore my shins under the tongue. However as I look at the picture as to how it's suppose to work I guess it's a good feature for skates with the new lighter weight thiner tongues such as the S15's just as an example. Where as the older style skates such as Grafs have the leather tongue with a thick felt backing that give a bit more protection and also a person would not need a longer shinguard to protect that area. Like Heatly does with his S15's.
