Home Skate Bake

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this is posted elsewhere but i couldnt find it. Hey i got my skates molded but the guy left the skates in the oven for like 5 minuites after the timer went off and they werent very hot when i got them on. I have a convection oven and on the box it says "bakeable, 200 degrees, 4 minuites". This is on the box of my stealth s15's. Can i bake them in my convection oven at home or is this a bad idea.

I would say bad idea. Your shop should be willing to do it again if they didn't do it right the first time. My LHS seemed happy to help when I needed a second. There just seems to be so many things that can go wrong in a conventional oven.

If you are going to bake them make sure to turn the oven off when you put the skate/skates in. I would also recommend you wrap them in a moist towel to keep them off of the tray and to prevent anything from burning.

it will work but if you aren't sure about what you are doing maybe you shouldn't do it... but then again you have to hope that your shop knows what they are doing. It's your choice either way.

200 degrees is 200 degrees regardless of the type of oven its in...

Yeah, I never understood the FUD that gets surrounded with baking skates. Other than the even heating that takes place with a convection oven, it would seem to me that if they are held correctly and the temp is right, there should be no problems.

i think the 2 things that make it hard to do at home are: most people dont have a convection oven. like stated ^^, a convection oven will give you even heat throughout the entire oven. non convection ovens are very uneven in heating which could hurt the skate. The other is most residential ovens, even if they are able to set that low, have a very hard time maintaining a low temperature like 200deg. how most of them work is they heat up, maybe as hot as 250-275, and then turn the element off until the thermostat drops under the set temperature. then repeats.

I think im gonna wait to get another 8 hours in the skates before i try to heat them again. I wanna give them a little more break in time.
