nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted June 22, 2007 Hey guys,A couple people on here know how active I am with Roller Hockey here in Queens, New York and I'd like to spread the word around that I am going to be starting up a couple leagues in the coming months. Our rink is actually getting torn down and rebuilt over the summer thanks to Mayor Bloomberg who gave near $300,000 to repair it. It is due to be completed in the Fall of 2007. Right after it gets finished we will be having Adult Leagues again and we will also be trying to get a Youth league off the ground after a 3 1/2 year break (In our area Youth Roller Hockey has been on the decline with Soccer and Basketball getting more and more kids). If anyone in the NYC area is interested in playing, coaching or ref'ing shoot me over a PM. li7039 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2007 I know the rangers and there garden of dreams foundation do alot of stuff for the sick kids and the underprivlaged children in the city. They also sponser the rink at bryant park. It might be worth a shot to contact there public relations and they might help you. They also got that hockey truck
nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted June 22, 2007 Yup, we are already making plans for the truck to come down when we have a Christmas/Winter Tournament. Thanks for the info

B Neal 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 How are you going to have a Xmas tourney on an outdoor roller rink?
nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 We've had them before, the weather in NYC doesn't get too bad until after the 1st of the year usually. As long as it's 35-45 degrees out, nothing wrong with playing in that weather
kovalchuk71 212 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Are the putting down outdoor flooring?
nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted July 10, 2007 Are the putting down outdoor flooring? No flooring, it's seal coated concrete, one of the best surfaces in the city. Everywhere else is just street asphalt that eats up your wheels in a second. Our surface doesn't wear down your blades and wheels that fast, I've been using pretty much the same OPS for almost a year and half of constant playing on that surface and it's now starting to show some wear. God only knows what the windchill factor was that day. I'm really happy to see that the rink is getting the facelift it so badly needed. Kudos to Justin (nyhockey6) for all his hard work. nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 Kudos to Justin (nyhockey6) for all his hard work. Thanks man, things are picking up steam a little bit. They broke up the ground and have been removing it the last day or so. I'm just hoping that it doesn't get to a point and they stop, leaving everything one giant mess.A new logo is also being developed, as well as possible board advertisments are being lined up.I just wish we could get some help from some hockey companies, I've written to a few of them asking for banners that I could hang up along the fences. So far I've only heard from Warrior and I was told that due to budget concerns on their end that they could not send me anything.

li7039 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 like what that type of surface has done to the blade on your OPS. What type of OPS are you using
nyhockey6 1 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 Ok, I'll take some when I get back to my house. I'm on my PDA currently. The OPS sticks I use are Synergy SL, Reebok 6K, Vapor XX Max Stick Um, Vector 10.0, Old Vegas Gold Synergy Grip.
