He's really suggesting a lot. I'm sure Lowe is pissed, but maybe he just didn't need a goalie? He's got Roloson and Garon. Why make a Toronto-like situation? I don't really read the Post, and I'm starting to see why. Just making something up to go to print with is a waste of my time.

they already have him locked up for 6 years but what good would that do when you don't have a scorer to play with him. he is one of the best playmakers in the league but he has no one to setup. <_<

I think he refers to Cammalleri going to arbitration (page 2 of article), but I think what he's trying to say is that Lowe going after Vanek for a super-inflated price could result in other 60pt getters looking for super-inflated contracts as well now that they know they are a possibility.

And I think he's right about that. I've cited Hartnell's deal in Philly as a ball breaker because Hartnell was basically in that 50-60 club that are now getting huge contracts.

What does Vanek have to do with anything regarding 60 pt players? Granted he did it for one season, but he had 84 pts, (43g) last season at 23 years old. As far as I'm concerned, the Gomez deal is more skewed than this one, and I'm a Ranger fan.

I don't know so much if it's important about points, as much as it is (for Brooks anyway) that guys who wouldn't normally deserve high paychecks, are now possibly going to get them because some teams are so desparate (and sneaky), they will offer anything. That desperation in turn, creates inflation within contracts.

It's really nothing new. This stuff has been happening for a long time. And as a Ranger fan, I agree that Gomer got a hell of a deal, but I'd take him before Vanek. He had a great year, but half the Sabres did. Let him back it up this year. Gomer is a proven winner. He's produced at every level, is still relatively young and has 2 cups behind him.
