Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2004 I recently played one of these guitars and I thought it was wonderful and would be a worthy replacement for my old SG which had served its time and is basically trash from gigging. Although I really like this Court (Model M800 Vintage for those interested) the price seemed high (higher then the Schecter C1 for those who are care). Price was $1300. If anyone can confirm this price is accurate or not I would really apperaciate it.
Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 18, 2004 Seems a bit expensive for a PRS knockoff. The pickups would need to be replaced as well. CORT guitars used to be junk, I would hope they improved quite a bit to be charging those prices.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 It actually had some upgrades in it. It had the Angus Young signature humbucker for the bridge pick up and their standard pick up for the neck position, which doesn't really matter because I never use it. Also had Grovers and a switch for coil tapping (the dealer installed all this stuff). Seemed alright I gues, and the wood seemed alot harder then PRS which my dad plays, and the wood is really, really soft; his button on his jeans (without wearing a belt) will dent it, and if you wear a belt with it the buckle will really screw it up.Doesn't really matter becasue I bought another standard SG. Hey Chadd, just wondering what do you play?
Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 I sold most of my stuff but here is the current collection:76 goldtop Les Paul w/57classic and '57 classic+ pickups80's fotoflame strat w/dimarzio HS3scustom strat, shoreline gold w/gold hardware, lefty neck, Rio Grande Half Breed pickups. I tracked down all of the parts and put it together myself.Custom mohogany Tele, w/maple neckAlvarez acoustic electricIbanez RG570 w/ dimarzio Fred pickup in the bridge, forget what the others areHeartfield Talon w/dimarzio tone zone in the bridge, forget what the others are.The PRS your father has most likely has a Mohogany body, hence the softness. Personally I prefer that to a solid swamp ash or alder body, it produces a much more rich tone to my ear.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Right on I'm liking the Goldtop, I have the '56 reissue, but it's my baby and I don't gig with it, LOL.It is mohogany, but still it's softer then usual, very strange I have to say though. Thats one thing I hate about guitars you can get two guitars, same make and everything and one just won't be as good as the other and it's noticiable. Wayne 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 I thought I remembered Chadd having quite the guitar collection. two of my prizes: American Standard Fender Strat, I replaced the bridge and neck pickups with Seymour Duncan cool rails (sweet sound) Takamine Electric/ Acoustic, which I LOVE.Pop's has got a Takamine as well, but his most prized possesion is his Custom Les Paul 25th anniversary... Chadd 916 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 It's funny that the wood Gibson is using for guitars is stuff that they would have rejected 30-40 years ago. The old LP jrs were their cheap model with bad wood and it's better than the $3k model they make today. I had a 98 LP standard that sucked. My goldtop is actually a pretty uncommon model, it has a maple neck and rosewood fretboard.
Dan_The_Man_16 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2004 Thats neat, I have never seen a guitar with a neck like that. I have to agree though all the new Gibson's just aren't as good as some of the older ones, although they seem to be getting a little better then the mid-late 90's guitars they were making, they were terrible. My new SG is alright for gigging but at home or jamming with people it just doesn't cut it. Right now I'm saving up for one of the Angus Young Custom models. I am in love with that guitar (as you can tell I'm a big SG fan). It felt awesome in my hands.
