Adding Chest Protection to Shoulder Pads

Recommended Posts

Anyone attempted to add more chest protection to your shoulder pads ? Currently wearing Bauer 400s, took a slapshot off the

right chest and ended up with a nasty bruise. Really don't want to change pads as I love the fit of the 400s, just beef up the chest area ...

I haven't done it myself, but I've read a few posts by members who customized their shoulder pads. I believe they took their gear to a shoe repair or some type of reputable sewing professional, like a luggage repair shop.

Were you thinking of taking a chest plate from a different set of shoulder pads and sewing them onto the 400s? Or adding a different type of padding to the area?

I wear the same pads...actually the 300, which is the same, just different color. I don't have any worries withthe current protection, though I wanted to have the pad extend a little lower so I looked at mods.

There's extra velcro on the front of those pads so attachment would be easy. Scrounge some padding off old pads or just buy some foam and attach one end on the velcro and sew a couple attachment points on the top to make it secure.

I'd like to add some additional padding that spans the chest area, kind of like my old pair of Hespeler EPS pads has. Although a larger

chest plate might also do the trick as well ... just found a place on the forum that might be able to help.

I tore my spleen in a freak hockey accident a year ago. I had to get special padding added to my shoulder pads in order for a doctor to allow me to play. I took my shoulder pads to my local hockey shop and they did a great job at adding padding. Its a great worksmanship, and only have minimal effects on my mobility. I highly recomend you leave all that sort of work to the professionals, I'm sure your local shop could make something for you.
