Face Shield for 8K Helmet

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for recommendations regarding a shield or cage to pair with an 8K helmet. Listed below are the desired attributes listed in order of importance.

1. Full face protection (need to protect the teeth as well as the eyes).

2. Visibility (I use a black Jofa 480 now, but would like to improve visibility).

3. Lightweight (With the 8K helmet, my Jofa 480 cage seems heavy/clunky).

4. Durability (If it's a visor, it would be nice if it lasted at least a year before I had to replace it due to scratches/scuffs).

A couple of options I am considering are:

1. Itech RBEVII Titanium Cage. Ignoring the cost, is this likely to provide any better visibility than my current cage?

2. Oakley VR910 or VR832 Visor. An aviator style shield with the lowest extending coverage. Is this likely to extend low enough to protect the teeth?

It seems like the magic bullet would be a fog and scratch resistant visor that extends low enough to protect the teeth. Does anyone have any experienced based recommendations for me? Thanks.

i've used both the oakley/cage combo and Itech RBEVIII Titanium Cage. With the oakley you'll run into fog issues down the road and it's also weights a ton. with the titanium i find that i lost some peripheral vision but not enough to hurt my game after getting used to it. overall the titanium cage wins for me.

Shute, was the visibiity with the Titanium cage any better/worse than your experience with other cages? I ask because it looks like the bars are spaced farther apart than a typical cage.

i don't think your gonna find too many cages with better visability than the 480. i've never used a titanium though so i'm not sure.

from really old ones like 5 years ago yes but i think most of the new ones are about the same when it comes to the size of the wires

The 480 is one of the lightest cages on the market, and provides great protection. And also looks good combo'd on an RBK bucket. Maybe consider a white or chrome version? I've rocked them all and for visibility, I like white or chrome.

I think the only cage lighter than the 480 is the titanium. I know the 8500 is slightly heavier and I'm pretty sure that's NBH's lightest cage.

or the NBH 8000, the 8500 is a bit wide for THC helmets. The true-vision color is awesome, in my opinion MUCH better than chrome which is miles ahead of black.

BTW, I've never tried white.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I went with the 908Ti cage on the 8K helment, and played some pickup with it today. Wow!! very comfortable, super light, great visibility. No complaints, aside from choking on the cost. It did seem to me that the cage was less visually distracting than my 480 cage (to be fair, my 480 is black, so the perceived improvement may be also attributed to going from black to matte silver).

cost is big, but let's be honest, you'll never need to buy another cage
