Exhaust Leak on 01 Impala

Recommended Posts

I can't seem to find my Warranty writeup on my 01 Imapala. I bought it used, but I got the full 'Tech 5' Warranty package with it, Which already has been worth the $ ($1000 moon roof motor went bad) Anyway, I just developed a minor exhaust leak, and I was curious if the Tech 5 warranty will cover that as well? It should cover everything outside of Normal Maintenance. And I don't see Exhaust system as Normal. Anyone with firsthand knowledge would be greatly appreciated. I might call the service dept later today, but thought I'd try here first. You guys are More Honest.

I don't know anything about the tech5 warranty, but depending on where the leak is, you might be able to get it fixed for around $50. Instead of replacing a whole section of exhaust, a muffler shop can sometimes cut and weld a piece of pipe where the leak is. Your best bet would be to go to a smaller muffler shop as opposed to one of the chains. If you have an industrial area with some junkyards and auto repairs all together, that would be where to go, as pricing will be driven down by competition.

If it's covered by warranty, the service department would let you know, since they would be reimbursed by Chevrolet.

I've been in a situation where an Acura dealership claimed my water pump wasn't under warranty, then when I got the car back out of the shop I looked in booklet (which happened to be in my glove box) and sure enough, water pump was covered. REAL pain in the ass to get my money back as I had already paid for it.

I don't want to have to pay Anything, that's the key. If it's under Warranty, then I'm all set, think I'll call the service dept in a while. Thanks for your inputs though.

The worst car I ever owned was an '01 Impalla- I replaced the transmission, coutless sensors and other parts, all just outside of warrenty and well before they should have been an issue. God, I hated that Car. Bought a Honda and never looked back.

Back on topic, If the warrenty is with GM, you should be able to google some info, no?

My customers are auto dealerships and I've been told that warranty repairs are reimbursed to them, but I could see how some of them could be like the story of the scorpion hitching the ride across the river, then biting the "ferry's" neck and saying, "Hey, it's in my nature."

Let's just say I have more respect for some customers than others....

If it's something that can just be welded, try and find a friend that has a welder or can get to one, might end up being alot cheaper and for sure quicker than taking it to a shop. I patch up my trucks exhaust in a good 20 mins.
