Feeling "too high up"in new skates

Recommended Posts

As I mentioned in a previous post,my son had to switch from a Graf G5 to an RBK 9K for his new team.He says he feels"too high up"in them and has trouble bending his knees.any ideas on what this could be? Would it help to swap the runner for a Cobra? Any help would be appreciated!!

That could help, I saw pros do that but it's most likelly the boot that is higher an upright with the fact that it is stiffer...

Grafs make low cut boots, this gives the player more mobility, your son got use to all that freedom, I suggest he try leaving the first eyelet untied, that might help simulate that...

Another option is to get the skates profiled or body balanced put your son in a more forward position. Also gow any times has your son skated in gis new skates

Leafs got it right, I suggest anyone who gets new skates to have them profiled to their body or have stock blade holders you're use to. Try having the pitch/rocker pushed to the middle of the blade more and this should even out that "standing tall" feeling.

Before you give the skates to someone at the local proshop make sure they know how to correctly profile skates. I suggest trying looking up the process on what goes into skate profiling online then going into the shop and ask some basic questions. If they can't answer your questions or if you're getting a lot of "ummm, ahhh... yeah that" Try to find a different shop.

I've seen profiling cost anywhere from $15 USD / pair of skates to upwards of $45 USD / skate. This depends on the amount of work that needs to go into the profiling. Either way it should help with the balance issue.

He only tried them once, but he tried them last year before purchasing the Grafs and had the same sensation.I think he will start with the eyelet and if that doesn't do it,maybe swap the holder. There are a couple of places here who are reputed to know what they are doing in terms of conturing, but awapping the runners seems less of am ordeal (not sure why).I will post the results here in the name of science!
