letter on a shirts..can you do it homemade?

I would like to have my name on my pratice shirt, is it possible to just buy the letter and stamp it on my shirt with a heat gun. or you need something special and it's better to go see your hockey store?

Thanks

Just get a name bar made for you by a Game Day or something, and sew it on. Name bars are usually around $10-$15

A name bar wouldn't be a bad idea. I would not try to do it yourself. The machine needed is a heat press and it is designed for this sort of thing. If your LHS doesn't have one any custom t-shirt place should be able to do it. Keep your heat gun away from your jersey. One of my employees did that to a customers jersey a while back and burnt a hole through it (he was pretty new). Luckily, it was just a cheap house jersey, and the customer actually thought it was funny.

Some places sell kits with glue on the backing....you can iron them, then anyone who sews (and can do a Zig-Zag stitch if you want it to look right) can sew around the letters. I wouldn't necessarily do a high quality Pro jersey that way....but it will do the job.

Look for a sports cresting place. They will usually do the namebar, and sew it on for less than $20.

If you're looking for a cheap job getting it screen pressed on by any place that does t shirts will do the job. ost places will charge anywhere from $0.50 to $1.35 a letter. Letters will eventually peel off but it won't cost you very much

Make sure any iron-on stuff you buy works with polyester jersey material. I had bad luck when I didn't read the directions first for some inkjet t-shirt transfer paper I tried on a jersey (read: it melted like a plastic bag).

My team would just make me draw their names and numbers with fabric paint on our practice jerseys.

I guess being 'art student of the year' for my graduating class does that.

However, I don't personally enjoy painting 20+ jerseys. Even if they provide the paint.
